  1. Medical Student
first P is long sorry.

I always knew I wasnt the clinical healthcare type of guy, but being thrust into biological/medical sciences in undergrad, I forced myself to learn (and eventually appreciate) biology. BS in biochemistry with a 3.2ish with history minor. I have good pre-req grades... As and B+s in Ochem + lab, Gchen + lab, biology, etc.. But I have low marks in upper div bio classes cause i took FAR (i took nearly all upper div bio electives available lol) more electives than i needed and did them half-heartedly cause i didnt know what to do with my life and cause I got severely sick and had a cancer scare + biopsy which caused severe anxiety and depression for 2 years... It's been 4-5 year since and I feel much better... i was debating med school, but could not imagine myself working clinically because of my experience so I just took it slow and finished my BS in 5 years... Have always wanted to apply to law school, but was afraid of the prospect of the job market afterwards and wanted to do somethign in healthcare/biotechnology if at all possible... just not clinically...

so NOW...

Going to apply to Pharm schools with joint PharmD/JD programs + some others. take LSAT in April of 2010 if I get into one of those and apply to the JD portion in the first year of Pharm school. If not, just go to pharm school as usual and apply for JD separately or while I am working as a pharmacist...

I would like to eventually work for big pharma or a biotech firm as a patent lawyer.. and I think the joint degree would be much more marketable... I wouldnt mind working with litigation in the healthcare industry.

It sounds perfect to me. However, do not underestimate law school. Your reading skills needs to razor sharp. You would rather be memorizing drug names than reading countless pages of case studies. If you find Marbury vs. Madison very interesting, Law school will fun be for you. After reading and researching that case, I actually dreamt about going to law school. Moreover, I hope that you don't have a movie image of what lawyers do. If you do, you are in for a rude awakening.

As for Pharmacy School, your science courses grades tell me that you will perform well.

There are only 4-5 pharmd/jd programs from what i recall, and i can think of only 4 at the moment (Maryland, Buffalo, USC, Drake). I think the 5th is in Florida....slim pickings, huh?

You will save ~2 yrs with the dual degree but why not just do pharmacy, and then apply to top-25 law schools?
