Has anyone done the secondary for Wash U and could tell me if there are required and/or optional essays. And if there are essays, could you pls. post them? Thank you so much!

1. If you have already completed your education or if you do not plan to be a full-time student during the current academic year, describe in chronological sequence your previous and/or planned activities since graduation. (maximum 1800 characters)
2. (optional) Do you have unique experiences or obstacles that you have overcome that were not covered in your application about which you would like to inform our Admissions Committee? (maximum 3000 characters)

what do people think? does it look bad if you don't write an essay if the school says it's optional?

In this case, it won't look bad if you leave it blank. Unless you have overcome major obstacles, I think they'd rather see it blank than take their time to read some BS filler.

KAZEMA -- Thanks so much! I really appreciate your taking the time to write out the essays!

is it

unique exper or (obstacles that you have overcome) -> you can prob write something abut a unique experience

OR

unique exper/obstacles that you have overcome -> most prob haven't faced significant experiences/obstacles that they had to overcome so can prob leave it blank

I assumed it was the latter. It seemed more like a place to talk about disadvantageous circumstances you've faced, rather than explaining your uniqueness. I left it blank.

I assumed the opposite. I figure I have so little chance at Wash U that anything I write could only help  .

This thread is really old (yay search!), but I have the same question (which I should probably just ask someone at Wash U admissions).

Is it "unique experiences" OR "obstacles you have overcome?"

OR

Is it "unique experiences or obstacles" you have overcome?

Anyone?

I think as an optional essay its "unique experiences" or "obstacles you have overcome"...
