i recently bought the washington guide and i haven't had much chance to flip through it yet, but i was reading someone's post about current medical diagnosis/treatment and it sounded interesting. does anybody have experience with both books, and how similar are they? is it worth it to buy both? (they're both pretty expensive!)

I'm assuming you mean the Washington Manual of Therapeutics. You can't compare these two resources. One is a textbook, the other is an outline/handbook. It's kinda like asking which is better, big Robbins or BRS Pathology. Look at CMDT at your bookstore or library and you'll see what I mean.

For quick reviews and brief work-ups, Washington Manual is great. For a bit more in-depth review of subjects, get CMDT. As a reference book, get Harrisons or similar.

thanks for the replies. i have already bought blueprints medicine and washington manual (not guide, sorry!). i am seriously trying to cut down on my number of books because i always buy way more than necessary. i think those 2 should be sufficient. thanks again!

and if you actually manage to get through both books during your medicine rotation, you deserve mad props! 🙂

My philosophy on rotations is:

"If you can put it on your PDA, don't put it in your pockets"

The Wash Man comes in PDA format so do a million other titles. There are so many medical software titles available, especially for Palm PDAs.

It takes like 2 seconds to look up something in 4 or 5 different PDA medical programs and references. Keep the books at home for reference and travel light. Your feet will thank you!
