Ok, does everyone get invited to apply for full scholarships at WashU? From what I have heard in the past, a lot of people [if not all] are invited to apply. Does anyone know? I am sorry if this has already been answered somewhere else.

I don't think anybody knows the percentage. I'd love to know too.

When I saw this my heart sunk . . . I thought somebody had already gotten an interview invite or something :scared:

...seeing as you're accepted already, but anyone know how receptive they are of status checks by phone? i'm realizing how much i really want to go to wash u and would like to call and see if they've made a decision on my app yet, or maybe just see if they've sent out all of their acceptances yet :scared:

thx!

and to potentially answer your actual question, someone in an earlier thread mentioned getting an acceptance by email because wash u wanted to make sure that person was notified of his/her acceptance before the scholarship deadline. to me, that suggests that those applicants accepted early are those who the school wants to apply for the scholarship, so probably everyone who has been accepted so far...also *hopefully* suggesting that there are more acceptances to be sent out (after the scholarship deadline) but for those who will not be able to compete for a scholarship.

I actually have never had the guts to call a school and ask that. But I have been told that it never hurts as long as you are nice. The closest I got was emailing Baylor, and they told me they could not tell me anything, which I thought was a little weird since I interviewed in October and have still heard nothing.

they were still accepting scholarship apps as of 3/3 because that was when my evaluation letter was due

They seem to have multiple deadlines because my evaluation letter for the Distinguished Scholar application was due February 15th. I was accepted in mid January...

the deadline is 1 month from the day you receive the scholarship application invitation.

hey everyone

regarding the olin fellowship.... I just noticed that last year someone was notified at the end of february that he/she was an Olin finalist (http://www.mdapplicants.com/viewprofile.php?id=1937). I emailed the fellowship office to check (don't have the guts to call) but I guess this doesn't bode well for those of us who haven't heard anything. 🙁

We don't hear about the other full-tuition scholarships till April, right? *sigh*

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it's a she...

Olin update:

Wow, they reply fast. Here's the response (I asked if they'd sent out invites already)....

"Yes. All finalists and non-finalists should be receiving notification some time before the end of this week. "

oh welll. I'm holding on to a SMIDGEN of hope that they were sent by snail mail and that MAYBE there'll be a nice surprise in the mail this week but i'm betting I get a non-finalist notification instead. Good luck to everyone who applied though! :luck: :luck:

For those of you that applied/are applying for the Distinguished Scholars Program Scholarhips, is there anything required for this besides the extra letter of recommendation? I just got the application (and acceptance 😍 ) on Friday, and was wondering if there is anything else I should do, given the upcoming due date (March 15).

Not that I know of, other than sending in the Statement of Intent form that came with the application invitation. Other than that, the instructions I received were to simply hand the enclosed packet to my recommender and let them handle it. (which was NICE).

On a separate note, did NOBODY on SDN get an Olin interview? That seems hard to believe... cmon people, don't be shy! 🙂

Ooh, maybe i'll get mine tomorrow!

That means mine isn't far 🙄

In case anyone wants to know, I emailed them to ask about the DSS scholarships and this was the response:

"The Merit Selection Committee will be meeting this Wednesday, March 29, to select those individuals who interview for a scholarship. Those individuals chosen to interview will be contacted by John Walters on the phone - starting on the 29th. However, the phone call process takes a few days, so the official result list won't be known until possibly March 31."

Good luck all :luck:

Thanks for this information! Does anyone know how many people they interview/how many scholarships they give? And do they pay for finalists to travel down for an interview?

they definitely pay for travel and expenses if you interview. But I don't know how many are selected. I think somwhere from 10-15 get the scholarship.

we're supposed to get a housing application? cuz i was interested in staying at olin, but i haven't heard anything back about that.

I *just* got it in the mail today.

I'm not staying in Olin because of my dog . . . you want my application? 😛

Yeah, I got one in Michigan today. You'll likely get one soon...

Nothing here.... and the work day's over 🙁

Anyone? 😕

Nothing here..

Good luck tomorrow everyone :luck:

Dean Walters called a bunch of folks today to invite them to interview. I don't know if he is done calling, though, or how many people were called.

Good luck! :luck: :luck:

I got a call from Dean Walters today about the scholarship. He said that they interview 2x as many people as they have scholarships.

Got the call this afternoon, but wasn't by my phone. Tried to call back but he wasn't in. So hopefully he'll have good news for me tomorrow.

i don't think they call if it's bad news. 😛

God I hope not, but with the way my luck has been lately you never know...

I had the message too. He must have called right after I left for work. They're an hour earlier than us. 😛 So Mansoor, what's the deal? What do you have to do to interview?

nope, no call here. that's ok, i wasn't really expecting anything, just a little too optimistic.

No call here, either. Bright side = no more interviews this year, lol. Good luck to those who got called 🙂

To interview they have you fly out there to arrive mid-afternoon Friday, April 21 and will get you out in the am on Sunday, April 23. Sounds like they will really wine & dine for the weekend. Good Luck!!

Are you MS1 or you going to be interviewing?

Got the invitation to interview, but I am declining, so I won't be attending. It sounds like a great weekend though! And, hopefully my "spot" will be given to someone else.

So where are you going to med school? You must have a sweet deal somewhere, so congrats.

You're sure that is the weekend? Somehow I thought it was May 6-7. 😕

That's what he told me yesterday (April 21-23), but definitely confirm, I could be wrong. He said that the Friday after the weekend, he's on the phone announcing to those who got the scholarship, and they expect that if you are a recipient you will accept and attend WashU.

Thanks, Wahina! I do have another great offer on the table, and I'm excited. It feels RIDICULOUS to turn down the opportunity to interview @ WashU for the scholarship, regardless of what else is out there, but I think I've found my fit and the right financing to boot, so better to decide that now than take a spot, I think. Hoping to spread the wealth 🙂

Well, I'm probably wrong then. Not sure why I thought it was then. Thanks for the info, and good luck to you. 🙂

Basically, like DeadorAlive said, they buy us plane tickets on Friday, April 21. (Had to change my flight for Umichi 2nd look weekend). THere are some fancy events, we get to see the St. Louis orchestra, and have some interviews. Yeah, basically wine and dine you, and you send you packing Sunday morning. You hear the results the first couple of days of the next week.

anyone get a call today? i've officially given up hope 😛

I definitely checked my phone every 5 minutes in classes today... to no avail. C'est la vie.

Dude, you have a very sweet deal from Vandy. The Wash U scholarship doesn't include a stipend. Is Vandy covering all of your living expenses?
