I have another comparison for all of you.

I don’t know how many of you have visited either or both, but I am in a debate as to which one I would rather attend. I am a Michigan resident so Wayne would be the cheaper option. However, with Cincy giving instate tuition after the first year there is really only about an 18,000 dollar difference between the two for the full four years.

Both have great clinical experience at great hospitals and seem to be highly respected
As for the overall impression, I think liked Cincinnati a little better. It seems like a better place to live and the students I met were awesome.

Does anyone have any insight or thought between the two.

Which one would you choose?

Cincinnati... but that's because I'm an Ohio resident.

I would choose Cincinnati cause I'm from Cincinnati.... although if I were from Detroit I might choose Wayne. You should make your decision based on whatever tops your priority. For me Cincy is home, it's a great school, seems like a good environment... so the decision would be easy. You can make the decision based on reputation, but I think it would be better to judge based on where you would be happy for the next 4 years.

Art Vandelay, I like that name. In any case to the OP, after seeing both programs, I would actually pick wayne state. Both schools have about the same reputation from what I have gathered, although cincy is ranked 43/50 and wayne is not. However, this difference means little. It really depends on what kind of living and clinical work you want. Cincy is MUCH smaller than Detroit, and is much less diverse. However, detroit is a big bad city too. 2 of my med school friends there had their car stolen in their first year. At wayne, you'll probably commute, as most people live in royal oak, madison heights, southfield and the surrounding areas. You won't have such a problem in Cincy. I would rate wayne's clinical experience much different from cincy too. At wayne, the good thing is you'll see people come in with pathology that's so far along that you'll rarely see it anywhere outside of a huge city. The bad thig is that you'll see people come in with pathology that's so far along that you'll rarely see it anywhere outside a huge city. You will get experience with the hardest cases, in my opinion, which may better prepare you for residency. However, cincy has a good system to learn in also. I think what it boils down to is your patient population, and your living status. Good luck with your decision.

I'd choose Cinci b/c I liked it better at my interview experience. Unfortunatly Cinci has "deferred" deciding, which I believe means waitlisted me, while Wayne accepted me. And I thought my Cinci interview was my best interview by far, flawless!

(I am a Wayne undergrad)

While I do not place that much importance on rankings alone, Wayne is ranked on the US News website; it is 65 in Research. Although, Cincinnati is 22 ranks higher at 43…

The only thing that US news rankings take into consideration is how much money is pumped into the school for research. They don't care how the students feel there, they don't care about how many 3rd or 4th year options for rotations there are, they don't care about anything other than money. Use your feelings and conversations with students at both schools to make your decision, it will probably give you a more accurate description of the type of life you will have there. just my .02

I know nothing about Wayne State, but if you are interested in peds or emergency medicine, go to UC.

nevermind rankings or anything like that. they are ranked so similarly that it doesn't matter. just focus on where you would be happy. think about things you like where you live now and which school has more of those characteristics - go with that one.
