Some repetitive questions, but that's necessary for statistical purposes I suppose. Thanks, OP.

this was really cool. I like the fact that it seemed to ask the same question more than once, because i found myself changing my mind about an answer here and there. maybe it took the averages of each answer.

Hmmm...not at all what I expected...but I have always figured on FP or Anes....

Emergency med might be fun. Can't remember what kinda residency is involved in that...

No way I want to be a surgeon.

I think they were doing that to look for consistency. That would be my guess. Thoracic surgery was at the top of my list.

never considered the first one. what the heck is aerospace medicine?

1 thoracic surgery 47
2 aerospace med 47
3 emergency med 47
4 otolaryngology 45
5 radiology 45
6 preventive med 45
7 general surgery 44
8 occupational med 43
9 ophthalmology 43
10 neurosurgery 43

both the tests paired me with dermatology  i would never go into derm!

top 3
Occupational Med - I'm not sure what this is? Doesn't sound too intersting
Pathology - Doubtful
Neurology - Dead on...

exactly what I was planning on. maybe the combined neuro/internal med residency offered at a few schools

Last Neurology

Interesting. . . . .Im interested in neurology and it put it in last place :(

1-Pulmonary / Critical Care Medicine --> didn't even know there was a specialty for this
2-Plastic Surgery --> thought about it, too superficial for me
3-Otolaryngology --> had to look this up to figure out it was ENT, just a bit too competitive
4-Sports Medicine --> never seen one of these guys
5-Orthopaedic Surgery --> i've thought about it
6-Gastroenterology --> thought about it
7-Neurological Surgery --> hell no, want to have SOME sort of life
8-Urology --> don't know much about the field
9-Colon and Rectal Surgery --> never know
10-Neonatal - Perinatal Medicine --> had to look this one up

It's funny because I really don't even know what half of these people do on a regular basis. Guess I need to brush up on my specialties.

Wasn't expecting that

4 gastroenterology 38
5 ophthalmology 38
6 plastic surgery 38

I was very adamant about "valuing my time off," so I have no idea how neurosurgery is #3.

I think those websites are fun to try, just to see what happens. However, at the end of the day we'll end up changing our minds so many times in med school, that who's really to know what field we will be in.

I just saw my former MCAT teacher that I'm always talking about. Anyhow, last summer when he was starting, he was all about family practice. Now that he's done some surgical research and observation, he's sort of liking that too. Similarly, I was at a premed forum one time and this fourth year said that she started with hopes of pediatrics, only to change her mind and go the OB/GYN route after gross anatomy led her to a fascination with the reproductive system. So who knows what will happen. I've taken the UVA survey that was linked above, but I'm going to see what the other one will give me as results just for fun.

You can tailor your responses to how you want the results to come out. Use it for fun or answer the questions as truthfully as possible.

yeah whatever bro...

A better website is The Pathway Evaluation Program. The Virginia site is ugly and gives results for fields that I have no interest in. The link I posted got the ranking perfect.

I tried your link, but it won't work for me and the computer I'm at won't seem to let me download the macromedia program that I need to work the program.

An honest answer can get you some pretty remarkable, if unexpected, results.

1 thoracic surgery 50
2 emergency med 49
3 otolaryngology 48
4 ophthalmology 48
5 nuclear med 47
6 infectious disease 47
7 anesthesiology 47
8 pathology 47
9 gastroenterology 47
10 neurosurgery 46

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Hematology
Allergy and Immunology
Medical Oncology
Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism
Infectious Diseases
Neurology

In this order, this is what I got from the link Deuist got. Neurology, Infectious diseases, and physical med and rehab, ironically are 3 of my greatest interests at the moment.

On the UVa link, Infectious diseases was at the top as number 3. Ironically, medical oncology, physical med and rehab, and hematology were also at the top of the list for that link.

I take it someone wants to be a surgeon. :p

The website is trying to push me that way, at least. I think it likes me.

I took this test last year, and my top two were Urology and Emergency. This year it's Pediatrics and Emergency and Urology dropped to like #7. So there's some internal validity I guess.

Emergency Medicine- 27
Orthopaedic Surgery- 31
Pulmonary / Critical Care Medicine- 32
Plastic Surgery- 33
Gastroenterology- 35
Pediatric Surgery- 35
Urology- 36
Sports Medicine- 37
Neonatal - Perinatal Medicine- 27
Cardiology- 38
Otolaryngology- 39
General Surgery- 40

I used the second link (Pathway Evaluation), so I suppose the lower the number, the greater match.

Well, EM is right on for my first choice. After that, they're all pretty much on the list, but it's a bit mixed up.

It should go:

EM
Critical Care
Urology
Ped. Surgery
Gen. Surgery
Infectious Disease
FP
Plastic Surgery
Ortho. Surgery
ENT
OB/GYN

Well, I think that's pretty much the order of my interest.

Medical Oncology 53
Nephrology 58
Cardiology 59
Plastic Surgery 61
Neurology 61
Neurological Suregery 61
Orthopaedic Surgery 61
Pulmonary / Critical Care Medicine 61
Radiation Oncology 62
Sports Medicine 63
Gastroenterology 65
Colon and Rectal Surgery 66
Otolaryngology 67

Otolaryngology being what i really want to do

General Surgery
Sports Medicine
Vascular Surgery
Gastroenterology
Orthopaedic Surgery
Pediatric Surgery
Thoracic Surgery
Plastic Surgery

which is way cool because I want nothing else than to be a surgeon, although i have absolutely no interest in sports medicine.

1 nuclear med 45
2 radiology 43
3 occupational med 42
4 rheumatology 42
5 pathology 42
6 colon & rectal surgery 42
7 anesthesiology 41
8 radiation oncology 41
9 dermatology 41
10 nephrology 41

My top match- aerospace medicine. Surprisingly, I hadn't thought of that.

It was interesting but I don't think it was too accurate.

My top ten were:
Physical med and rehabilitation; not interested
Rheumatology; No
Nuclear med; Don't know much about that field
Psych; maybe
Nephrology; Nah...
Infectious Disease; sounds interesting
Hematology; No
General Internal Med; No, I was adult and peds
Dermatology; Never sounded interesting
Plastic Surgery; Seems pretty cool

I want to do FP and it was listed as 23 on my list.

I have to agree with you, I took another version of this exam on some other school's website, forgot what it was, but the result were completely different.

Yeah, I was surprised with the answers on that site.

1 neurology 42
2 endocrinology 42
3 rheumatology 41
4 allergy & immunology 41
5 ophthalmology 41
6 radiology 41
7 urology 40
8 plastic surgery 40
9 otolaryngology 40
10 nuclear med 40

I think neuro would be interesting, but my true passion is medical oncology which was all the way at 34 for me. I then took the Pathway Evaluation and had these results:

Colon and Rectal Surgery
Radiation Oncology
Neurology
Medical Oncology
Opthamology

That's much closer to what I want to do than the other one.
