Most important things for me are doing less than 2 years pre-clinical, opportunities to study abroad, supportive and fun community of students, fun things to do outside of medicine, opportunities to work with under-served communities, cost of attendance!

doing less than 2 years pre-clinical: duke > cornell
opportunities to study abroad: duke > Cornell (cuz of 3rd year)
supportive and fun community of students: probably equal? my tour guide at Cornell was a super gunner so that's my only experience lol seems like duke>Cornell for you
fun things to do outside of medicine: if you like nature/outdoors -> duke, if you like city life, restaurants, and museums -> cornell
opportunities to work with under-served communities: duke > Cornell? didnt seem like there was much of this at Cornell in my interview day
cost of attendance: Cornell > duke
family: duke > cornell

figure out which of these factors is most important to you, find out which school is better or worse at each, and then decide.

I think it's time for you to get out of NC and get to NYC! Like you said, it's your dream ... plus, being LGBTQ in a place that isn't the south could be super exciting for you. Seems like it'll be even cheaper for you to go to Cornell, too.

Yes, Duke's 1 year preclinical is awesome, but 1.5 year isn't that much different. At Cornell, you'll get four years to explore everything NYC has to offer from comedy to nightlife to food to everything everything everything. Run to the city, queer baby!!!

I agree with this. Seems like Duke is the logical answer, but it's ultimately up to you.

Also a fellow LGBTQ+ headed to Cornell. Would love to have more of us in the fam this fall! Sounds like Duke has the better support system for you. But what's stopping you from developing your own system, debt free, in the best part of NYC? The opportunities at Cornell to work with the underserved are certainly there, take a look at this:
I love how the school as posh and fancy as it is, is still devoted to supporting underserved communities and funneling resources into pipeline programs.

from a city perspective NYC can't be beat!
Lgbtq life, shows, internatiinal cuisine, museums, alternative, nightlife, fashion, MEDICINE (huge populations and health Care system), parks, marathons, biking, etc.
Drive an hour and you get huge variety, beaches, hiking, biking, camping, skiing (1-2 hrs).

Hello! Totally fine if you’d rather not answer, but I’m curious to know where your child is heading this fall.
don't want to Dox them.
One T10 acceptance is leading choice so far and was a top choice after all interviews. Won't qualify for any need based aid.
Might ask another school acceptance if they would offer merit aid for consideration, obviously not likely.
Four WLs, one of which would become a top choice should lightning strike.

My thoughts on LOIs is they likely can’t hurt but not sure how much they help.
LoIs were sent at time of WL to each school just after time of receiving WL. They are not imho mutually exclusive from each other. IOW, if X WL is a higher preference than current acceptances send LOI. You can do the same for School Y if Y> Preference of current As.
