I took AP Chem in HS and got credit for it in college. However, I decided to take Chem again so I took Chem 1 first semester. I got a C+ due to my being a bit lazy and due to a really bad teacher. This semester however, I don't want to take Chem 2. So far I have these classes:

Chem+Lab
Bio+Lab
History
English
Psych(Intro to Neuroscience)

That's about 18 credits.

If I don't take Chem I'll have 15 credits and a bit more time to study for classes.

What should I do?

i think you really really should take gen chem 2 since you didn't exactly rock in gen chem 1

Agreed - it'll probably be suspicious if you didn't take chem 2 when you took chem 1, even if you already have credit for it. Don't just assume that you already know that stuff.

I don't even think you have the choice not to take G. Ghem II. Isn't a full year required for med schools? Many med schools will not accept AP credit for the pre-reqs.

If anything, drop history. Boo to reading!

You are correct, a full year of general chemistry is required.

OP, you really do not have any other options. Since you took AP Chemistry in high school, then had a less-than-stellar performance in general chemistry I, you need to make up for the poor mark by excelling in general chemistry II.

I would drop the history course as well, though I am an avid reader/nerd. Too much reading in addition to the 2 science courses w/labs.

I always had a non-science/major class as I went through - really kept me sane. Don't be so quick to drop it if you enjoy it!

cant you take chem II some other time? or bio? or psych?

if 18 is too much for you, drop something. either way you should take chem II at some time because your AP knowledge wasnt enough to do well.. after all, a 5 is what, 55 or so % correct on the test? not exactly proof of mastering the material. theres a reason why many schools dont take AP credit- the test and courses are not as rigorous as college-level equivalents. dont screw yourself over for the mcat either..

I think AP courses are only useful for courses that aren't directly related to your major (or career choice).

I ended up retaking all of the AP classes in subjects that I actually cared about instead of using my 5's and in every instance the college classes involved much more material.

You can delay taking Chem II for however long, but it's still a necessary medical school pre-req. And you should realize if you put off Chem II for another semester, you will also most likely be delaying taking Organic Chemistry I/II, since they're sequential courses at most schools.

Agreed. I took AP Chem in HS and then retook both intro chem classes+lab in college. The college classes (esp. the lab) were much more difficult, making me glad I retook them. I never would have been prepared for the challenges of ochem+labs if I hadn't done so.

What should I do?

I'd take more time to study and extra-curriculars. 18 units at a 3.0 is a disaster.
