What would cause something to grow off a tooth root? X-ray looks the same color as tooth but it extends off the one root into the gum and becomes a sort of ball. Rather large. Has apparently shrunken since last dental xray. No associated pain, swelling and not palpable.

Been googling forever and can't find any mention. My own issue. The dentist I saw didn't know what it was but also said not to worry since it shrunk.

I'm worried. Reminds me of an osteophyte growing off a bone but teeth aren't bone.

If it is against the rules to ask, please delete this thread.

Just scratching my head. Thought it might be common or heard of but countless hours of researching, can't find a similar looking x ray.

Never mind, probably a cementoblastoma or hypercementosis.

As a cementoblastoma might continue to grow, it is removed. I'm assuming since my didn't grow, it isn't an issue?
