Weird Letter of Rec Question

So, I’ve attended this one professor’s office hours twice and I always sit at the front of class. He seems to recognize me in class, but doesn’t know my name. I was going to get to know him more...and then Coronavirus hit. All his lectures are now recorded. Can I build this relationship via email? I really need a science letter of rec and have no idea what to do. I’m almost thinking of staying another semester after senior year to get a better letter. I’m

Email is your best approach at this point. If you have the opportunity to have your picture attached to your email name, this would be a good time to upload a picture into your email account.

Try to email him and spark up discussion. Dont overcook it though as professors will likely be receiving hundreds of emails at this point given that classes are virtual.
