does anyone have any opinions about this program? I think that the location is great, and the residents and attendings are really nice and helpful.. but can anyone offer any insight into this program? any input is highly appreciated.
thanks.

I heard that Westchester was/is on probation. This info is from someone affiliated with the program. Don't mean to bust your bubble since you liked the program so confirm this info first.

yeah I think that you are right.. but still some very very bright residents that have been accepted there in the past.. I did not inquire about that probation issue.... but how would that affect the matching system for a particular program in general if it is on probation.. any input is appreciated..

I don't think a program being on probation will effect the match other than maybe less people ranking it (like you said). But I believe if a program is on probation, residents are not Anes. board eligible. Meaning they can't sit for the boards. It is probably worth asking the ASA to be sure. More than likely the program is on probation because of work hours and the probation will be lifted soon, hopefully by the time you sit for boards.

hmm.. never thought about that.. cant sit for the boards if the program is on probation.. well hopefully that probation issue changes there.. that sucks.. but as for right now.. I would love to just obtain an Anesthesiology PGY2 CA-1 spot.. thanks again!

The hospital is in the midst of serious financial problems and many layoffs recently. It appears to worse for them than other hospitals.I would do some rearch into this situation and see how it relates to your specialty before going there.

I interviewed here last year and unless they started putting dilaudid in the coffee I dont see how anyone could see this place as anything but a disaster. Westchester and Maimo are the 2 sweatshop programs in NY. They rode the curve last year and lucked their way into some decent applicants. The program director told me.. and i quote "dee beegest problem wit the program is yoo peepole.. yoo lazee residents dont want to read.. and now that yoo can only work 80 hour a week i will (insert backhanded bitchslap here) keeek you out of heeer if yoo dont read." These nice folks were on probation for good reason. They were working their residents so hard the people were graduating the program without even having the chance to sit for step 3. Their board pass rates subsequently took a dump and finally attracted the attention of the ACGME. Be very very careful where you rank this program. I left it completely off my list as I would rather have gone unmatched.

i am starting here in july 2004. I think the review is this fall to evaluate the probation and the new director who comes from yale is very well known. I know the previous chief resident got peds fellowship at tufts univ. I spoke with a few of the other guys going and they seem pretty together and are all pretty optimistic about things...............hopefully things are turning around. Well I have step 3 completed so glad I wont have to worry about passing that.....................Anyway, i guess you just try your best wherever you go and if things are miserable you can always try to transfer. Good luck everybody with the match.
