Hahaha, I agree! A lot of Cali is really awesome, but I would hate for 3Na2K's first view of California to be some mildly ghetto areas of Pomona ;)

Btw, what part of California are you from?
Hehe, Inglehood originally, ended up in Redondo Beach somehow near the end, faaar better than Inglehood. (For those of you not from Cali, Inglehood=Inglewood.)

Anytime, support goes a long way during this torturous process. I'm sorry to hear you're so close, too. Do you have any other prospects? Maybe you can apply earlier next year... Hang in there. I'm a reapp myself; it's not the end of the world.

Definitely will apply earlier next year! I was just waiting on an LOR for so long and didn't want to seem pushy. At any rate I'd be able to apply day 1 next cycle ... which is a positive I suppose.

Still waiting to hear back from a few MDs and DOs. Only CCOM/WesternU-P(DO wise) said no so far.

Good luck with the others! I hope to see you in school this year, but next year is just as good!

I ate at a Nigerian restaurant there as part of an MPH project, it was a little shades haha. But it was good food and the people there were really nice.

Oh man I used to go to Manhattan/Hermosa/Redondo Beach all the time. Not just for the beaches either. Far better than Inglewood indeed :D

Have you guys watched the movie "The Wood" lol, so that's my only impression of where you're from Guero.

Yeah, you can definitely find pockets of awesome people, especially those involve in community action. But yeah, Redondo and Hermosa are awesome. I'm not a huge fan of Manhattan, but it's okay :)

And dr shark, no, I'll have to look it up when I get back!

Hey people. I have a question about shadowing for those of you that went through the secondary and interview process at Western. Would it be ok with shadowing an oncologist M.D. and no shadowing of a D.O.? I've been pressed for time with my classes, MCAT studying, and other volunteering that I just don't have enough time to find a D.O. and put in 30-40 hours of shadowing. Plus, I've already built up hours with the M.D. and enjoying learning in his clinic when I can go shadow.

I interviewed at the Oregon Campus and my interviewers brought up the fact that I didn't have a DO LOR. It's up to you what you do.

Did you get in or waitlisted? I just don't know if I should try to shadow a D.O. with the little time I have. And I would probably get only 20-30 hours of shadowing in before June.

I was wait listed. But I am sending in a LOR I got from a DO to pad my file when they review the wait list. If I had to do it over again, I would have updated my file before the interview with a DO LOR. You don't need a ton of hours for the doctor to get a read on your personality.

We can't all be super SDNers with 1,000 shadowing hours and 100,000 volunteer hours.

Haha true that. I have nice nice volunteering under my belt, along with the M.D. shadowing. Worst comes to worst, I will start begging D.O.'s after my April MCAT and do the shadowing. Thanks for the info and good luck! My top D.O. is Western-Pomona.

I'm a student here now and last year I only had an MD letter. Everybody is different, but I think it's just depends on how you answer the shadowing question on the secondary and explaining how that experience gears you towards osteopathic medicine. Best of luck!

I got in and had no DO letter. I only had about 40 hours of shadowing as well, which I feel is more than enough, I mean honestly what is 100 hours of following a doctor around going to get you compared to 20-40? (assuming you had a chance to get to know the doctor of course)

That's really good to hear. I know the oncologist, and he's pretty awesome.

Yeah, I plan on doing another 20-30 hours. Did you just have an M.D. letter, or no letter at all from a doctor?

I had an M.D. letter, I think it's required for most DO schools to have a letter from a physician MD or DO. Good luck!

Anyone get an email with this before?

"Your application has received extensive review; however you have not been selected for an interview at this time.

We receive applications from more qualified candidates than we can consider for interview.
Your application is still under consideration and you will be contacted by telephone or email should you be selected for an interview. Please keep your counselor advised of your most current telephone number and email."

Is there any hope or is this just a hidden rejection?

I got the same letter way back in August. I gave up hope.

I heard that some rejection letters were received Friday from the 1/26 group but haven't heard about any acceptances or waitlist letters/emails.

Interviewed on 12/18 and got an acceptance mailed out on Feb 1st. I honestly have to look more into the school, $70-80k is a little on the higher end and the pomona area was a bit sketch. I'm digging through the forums, but if anyone has quick links to pro/con for COMP, I would greatly appreciate it...

Does anyone know how to get a BIG extension on the $2,000 deposit (a bit ridiculous in my opinion, I get I signed up for this, but come on)? I already emailed and asked and they can make it $500 due by Feb 15th and $1,500 due by March 1st, not a huge help for someone financially independent and working full-time to pay rent...

Best of luck to everyone. I know this process is ridiculous and no one should use it as a reflection on their self-worth or ability to become a competent physician. Keep your head up and keep trying!

Haha seriously! Please Na/K ATPase please visit the beaches if you go to Cali. Pomona isn't exactly how you'd want to remember California. LOL. Although the view of Mt Baldy is pretty awesome especially if it has snow on it.
I grew up in Colton which isn't that great either but hey! It's home!

Sorry JaBoomDay, I just read this post now! I also just realized the significance of 3Na2K's username...I thought it was just random numbers/letters .

The view of the snowy mountains are really nice! That was one nice thing about going to school at UCR. Oh, and that grass would grow on the mountains in winter because of the rain

Exchanging 3 Na's for 2 K's! ;)

I like telling people how it's green in the winter and dry/brown in the summer. It's completely opposite from the rest of the country. Miss it so much. I'm flying home at the end of March for 2 weeks. I can't wait! I miss home so much!

I really really really want to go here but I have been lucky to have some choices with some other schools so I was hoping that I could speak with an upper year student. Hi All,

I just realized I am 6 days late to submit my second acceptance deposit. I have already submitted my first deposit as well as my Acceptance Declaration Form, but I am still nervous about my late second deposit. I will take care of it first thing tomorrow, but am a bundle of nerves and really want to hear from someone if they know what I'll face tomorrow...

I'm anxious to see how they tier the waitlist this year. I hope they release the information soon. It was around the middle of March last year.

I would give admissions a call to give them a heads up. I sent my deposit in the day before it was due, so it probably arrived late as well, but received the email confirmation about a week later.

So I received an interview invite last Friday for an interview this Saturday - does anyone know if there are still spots available in the class or if i'd be interviewing for a wait list spot? I'm a CA native but i'm already accepted and pretty sold on attending another school.. Western is a really great school and I'm excited for the opportunity to interview but I don't want to if it's just for a spot on the wait list. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Congrats to everyone who's been accepted already!

Edit: The interview was actually for this Thursday (3/14), not Saturday (idk if there is an interview date this Saturday) - I don't want to give out false information

Not sure if the class is full but last year this time they gave out deferred acceptances, congrats on your other acceptance :D
