To account for the heat in august:miasapearl said:Late August for me. Does anyone know what I should wear to the interview? I don't know how to dress for such warm weather.

Woot Woot! Vacation! I'm wearing the generic, shirt, coat, and tie, with matching pants. It's just like a job interview. BTW, what's the dress code when attending classes, doing rotations? Thanks. Enjoy your vacation!Osteodog said:I'm a 3rd year DO student at Western. My advice is to make sure you dress professionally. Sounds obvious, but our school places great emphasis on maturity and professionalism. If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me - I'm on vacation!
Thanks. That's very helpful considering that I heard that some medical schools require their students to wear a shirt and tie to class for men and similarly for women.TheFish005 said:The only dress codes are for OMM class (once a week), which you are required to wear loose-fitting clothing. Men, shorts and a shirt you can take off; women, shorts and a sports bra (wear t-shirt over it and take off the t-shirt when it's time to palpate). Sounds ackward at first, but by the end of the first semester, you'll be stripping down in front of each other like it's no big deal. Occassionally you'll be seeing standardized patients, and you are required to dress professionally (meaning interview-like clothes) and that's about every 2nd or 3rd week depending on your ECM (essentials of clinical medicine) schedule. I'd recommend scrubs or something you don't mind throwing away for gross anatomy lab, but there's no real requirement for lab other than close-toed shoes (my roommate dropped a scalple on his toe while wearing sandals in the lab - i wouldnt recommend that).

Its all good. You can't tell from the SDN name. Congrats on your COMP interview.jillibean said:I'm wearing a suit too. For some reason, HOD, I thought you were a girl.... sorry.
I'll be interviewing the same day as you. Where are you staying?rub1003 said:good question jillibean. I'm there early on 7th, my interview is on the 8th. Dont have anything to do on the 7th...don't have a car either =( Suggestions would be great!
miasapearl said:Is there anyone interviewing on 8/24?
ScootDoc said:SCOOTDOC is there on 8/24!!!!
It should be great!!!
You should have received a confirmation of your interview from Cameron. In there, there should be links to hotels/motels near campus. Many of them have a shuttle service to and from Western. They also have special rates for COMP interviewees. You must ask the motel/hotel about setting this up when you are making your reservations.ScootDoc said:I was wondering. Are there taxi's that will get me around, or do I need to rent a car or something? I'm new at this game
jillibean said:Anyone flying into LAX? I am tempted to just because it is half the price but a 45 minute drive (vs. 20 mins from Ontario). I found a rental car co that is only $13.50/24 hours, unlimited miles at LAX (plus a little more if you are under 25).

Same here! You're right, sweet deal. I made my confirmation today. I'll be flying in on the 7th at around 3pm. We should meet up/hang out that day if you're around. Private message me if you want to talk on AIM or YIM.rub1003 said:I'm staying at shilo inn, got a really sweet deal where are you staying?
snowkhat said:I just got the invite. Haven't heard about the date thus far. I would fly into Ontario if you can! I have rented a car at LAX before and it was HELLISH!! I waited for 2 hours to get it (the price was 13 bucks a day). I think I am skipping LAX if possible.
If you don't have a ride (or a place to stay), ask the school if a med. student will pick you up.
Anyone, have any advice or info on Western in general?
ScootDoc said:Here is my #'s
overall GPA: 3.63
science GPA: 3.58
non-science: 3.68
MCAT: 26M --> weak!! I know
Extracurricular:
-200+ hrs ER volunteer
-1.5 yrs ( 1200+ hrs) working as a PCT (Patient Care Tech) --> I'm basicially a glorified CNA, the only difference is I also do Phlebotomy, so they give me a much cooler title.
- At the tender age of 19 I traveled to Bolivia for 2 yrs as a missionary (2001-2003) It was awesome by the way!!! included religious proselyting and lots of community service.
- 2005 American Heart Association Summer Undergraduate Internship Awardee
(Cardio Research w/ pacemakers, and pacemaker protocols, it was in collaboration w/ Guidant corp. (i.e. the bigtime!) about 600hrs total --> I also co-authored a paper. (PUBLISHED)
- the list goes on as well but I'm too lazy to list.
My GPA is brought down completely by my first semester as a freshman. You know the drill. What an Idiot. Anyway, so I basically came home from Bolivia and hit it hard. Retook all the classes and got busy! Hopefully they're good enough.
The good thing is once we get to <a style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.qklinkserver.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=92&k=med%20school&st=1" onmouseover="window.status='Search for: med school'; self.ql_skeyphrase='med%20school'; if(window.event) self.ql_sevent=window.event.srcElement; self.ql_timeout = setTimeout('ql_doMouseOver(1)', 1000); self.ql_isOverLink=true; return true;" onclick="if(self.ql_timeout) clearTimeout(self.ql_timeout); self.ql_isOverTip = false; ql_closeiframe(); self.ql_skeyphrase='med%20school'; window.status='Search for: med school';return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; if(self.ql_timeout) clearTimeout(self.ql_timeout); self.ql_isOverTip = false; setTimeout('ql_closeiframe()', 1500); ">med school</a> we get to start over. Yeehaw !!!
vmgopal said:how long did it take each of you from the time your file was complete with each college or specifically Western U to the time you recieve Interview invites!!!
Most of us received our interview invites along with the secondary application. Therefore, our file wasn't complete yet. The secondary application must be complete and received by Western U within 30 days of the email or there will be a delay in your processing which may be a "strike" against you.vmgopal said:how long did it take each of you from the time your file was complete with each college or specifically Western U to the time you recieve Interview invites!!!
