Hello all,

This morning, I received an interview invitation at Western U. in Pomona, California for the Fall 2020. The interview will be in January (I have not decided on a date yet).
This is my first interview at any school, how did you guys prepare for interviews? And for those who have interviewed at Western U., what was the interview like? What kind of questions, if you guys don't mind sharing.

Thanks in advance!

I'll be interviewing with Western on Jan 30!. I previously interviewed with Loma Linda and got accepted. To prepare, I looked up potential questions online and typed out answers for them then rehearsed the answers. Make sure ur saying them out loud so u practice verbalizing. Goodluck!

I guess I just got lucky ? I have no idea.

I'm interviewing for WesternU in January. Past students informed me it was an interview with 2 faculty members, but the email says its a writing sample. I wonder if this is a new thing because I was talking to Karen about how they will soon stop taking GRE scores because they will start implementing writing samples, I didn't know it would be so soon.

Yeah, there's a writing sample and a two 15 minute interviews as well.

nice! do u know if its a group interview?

To be honest, I'm not sure. My friends friend is at WesternU right now for his first semester so I'm waiting for my friend to get information regarding the interview process.

One of the PTs I work for interviewed at Western 3 years ago and said there is a group “activity”. Maybe just seeing how you work with others?

Hi everyone! I'm also interviewing at WesternU. Mine is scheduled for Jan 30th at 12PM.

A second year told me we talk to two different faculty members (individually). Only advertised as group interviews because there will be a few of us on campus at the same time, but we will be waiting around until its our turn. I had a friend get an interview for their pharmacy program last Friday and she said the writing sample was just a generic pharmacy question like "why this field?". I'll be interviewing at 1/29 if someone wants to PM me and we can prepare together

By any chance do you guys know how many people they are interviewing in total? Or know how many they interviewed last year ?

According to their website, they received 1017 applications, granted 282 interviews, and enroll 54.

Just got my interview invitation today!
Scheduled for 2/20

I have mine on the 18th! would definetely love any info on how the process is!

I had my interview a week ago so here's what I remember...

The first 30mins, the Department Chair and other faculty talks to all the applicants about the school, the program, how they are different from other programs. When you check in, your name tag has a color and you are separated according to your color; campus tour, Q&A with current students, writing prompt, or interview. Pretty much you just rotate each "section" and at the very end, you meet with faculty and it's a informal Q&A (talk stories, ask questions, etc).

Overall, I was mentally preparing myself for it to be a worse experience than it actually was. I enjoyed my interview day. I was fortunate enough to be in the first group that was interviewed so I was able to get that out of the way. The interview is actually one 20 minute interview.

Feel free to PM with any other questions regarding the day of the interview.
Good luck to everyone!

Its a one on one interview and not a group, correct?

Yes, like others have said. I had this format today - 2 faculty: 1 applicant.

To those who have been accepted, how long did it take for you to receive an admissions decision from WesternU?

Their current students said that some heard back in 3 days and some after 10. They themselves say 2 or 3 weeks. I interviewed Jan 30th.

During the day of my interview, I asked if they interview the entire applicant pool before they make their decisions, but they said they accept students as the admission process goes. It sucks because it could be as early as a week after you interview or as late as a week before school starts.

How did you guys prepare for the writing prompt? Or does anybody have any insight on how it was?

It’s truly random. It’s only 15 minutes. I’m surprised people used a second page. Just be cogent in it.

I wrote two complete pages. I got in a flow and kept writing. I also think I write a little big too though! It's a vague/random prompt!

I think I was told they would inform everyone on their decision by or before March 1.
