I was just wondering. I was going to apply to medical schools this coming year. My GPA is at about a 3.5. The only problem is that though my science GPA is above a 3.0, I do have one D in my first gem chem. Is there anyway to still apply with this D+, or do I have to re-take it before I can apply? I would prefer not to, but if I have to I will.

Many schools will not accept anything less than a C in a pre-req class. You would have to ask each school you're applying to and see what they say.

gen chem + (D+) =gpa killer=easy chance to bring up your gap

retake the class, it shouldnt be too bad and it will it should help your gpa a lot.

  7. Just know that the schools will still see the D+, but you should retake anyway so they can also see an A or whatever.

i think most schools say you have to have at least a C in all your pre-reqs, so you need to re-take it. shouldn't be too bad though, right? good MCAT review if you haven't taken it yet! in terms of schools seeing your D+, it might not be so bad if you get an A the second time around and rock the physical sciences on the MCAT. good luck :)

At my school a D+ freshman year would qualify for freshman forgiveness, meaning that you'd retake the course and the D would go away and be replaced with your new grade. Check out your school and see if that's offered.
