Its been over two months since I have submitted my secondaries and I have either gotten silence or been placed on hold for a good bunch of schools I applied to. I am really concerned about my chances this cycle. Please tell me your opinion on my situation if you can. Thank you!

Year in School: Graduated last December

State of Residence: Maryland

Undergrad: Not a top tier school

I sent out my secondaries this week

Schools I am Applied To:

- NYMC (on-hold)

- Tufts

- GWU (on-hold)

- WVU (II)

- Penn State

- UMD (Top Choice) (on-hold)

- Arizona (Tuscon) (on-hold)

- Georgetown

- Iowa

- Drexel

- VCU

- Temple

- Vermont

- Oakland

- OSU

- Thomas Jefferson

- EVMS

- Wake Forest

- Albany

- Indiana (rejected)

- RFU

- Miami (haven't received secondary yet)

- Kentucky (haven't received secondary yet)

Cumulative GPA: 3.87

Science GPA: 3.88

MCAT: 512 (129/125/130/128)

Research: One semester in a lab at undergrad as assistant (no course credits/publications)

Volunteering: 130 hours in ICU (From 2014-2015)

Physician Shadowing: 20 hours shadowing 1 Anesthesiologist (June to Sept 2016)

Non-Clinical Volunteering: Environmental Cleanup (30 hours), holiday party for underprivileged kids, community service chair of fraternity where I organized many other philanthropic events

ECs: Fraternity Academic and Community Service Chair (left in 2016)

Employment History:Clerical Worker; Got a promotion to IRB Coordinator for University (left in 2016)

Immediate Family in Medicine: No

Specialty of Interest: Undecided

Intrest in Rural Health: No

Got an II from WVU scheduled for January.

I also have an institutional action on my record for marijuana early into my sophomore year but nothing is on my criminal record. Was able to explain it well in essays I think. Thoughts on how big of a deal this will be?

I know I have weak ECs but I am hoping my GPA/MCAT can make up for it. I really wanted to get some more under my belt this gap year but Ive sorta had a family emergency that had me preoccupied for a while.

Your GPA is great and overall MCAT are solid. Though I can see your low CARs score possibly being a point of concern. If you sent out all your secondaries this week, I would not be too concerned considering you already have II in hand. Keep working on your ECs so you have some content for update letters later on in the cycle and keep waiting patiently. Best of luck.

Your GPAs are great. Your MCAT is okay. Your ECs are really weak and it seems nothing is current. Are you doing anything to buff them up? You need more shadowing and your clinical experience is 2-3 years old. Find some opportunities to expand these. Also you need some activities that will show your altruistic side.

Many times people hope(expect ) that one part of their application will make up for another part. What many applicants don’t realize (or won’t accept) is that lots of students have it all.

Chances best at:

- NYMC (on-hold)
- Tufts
- GWU (on-hold)
- WVU (II)
- Penn State
- UMD (Top Choice) (on-hold)
- Georgetown
- Drexel
- VCU

You should add some DO schools tot he list...but hurry! Suggest CCOM, MUCOM, PCOM, NYITCOM, LECOM, VCOM, WVCOM
