3rd year US MD med student wanting to go into Anesthesia. Passed all of my pre-clinical classes (p/f at my school). My step 1 was much worse than I was expecting. Got a 217 when I was getting 240s on my practice exams, unfortunately. I haven't really done much in medical school either. No research, no volunteering, or work experiences. Have done 2 clerkships so far. Honors in first and High pass in 2nd (H/HP/P/F at my school). I honestly think I can get 240+ on Step 2, so I am going to work very hard to knock that out of the park. With that said, would I have a realistic chance at matching into Anesthesia with my step 1 score and if I scored 240+ on step 2 despite not having much else on my CV? I would love to get some things to put onto it but the time is so limited right now and I feel like it might be more worthwhile to focus on doing well in my clerkships and on step 2. Also, does being an underrepresented minority affect my chances at all?
