Hello everybody, thank you in advance for taking the time to scan over my package and provide feedback. I decided to apply this 2017 cycle before taking the MCAT for a second time for a higher score, but I believe I made a major mistake by applying so late (primary submitted in August, mcat test in September), a mistake I have learned from.

Although I am still waiting for responses from 4 more schools, I am being proactive in preparing my application for the 2018 cycle and would appreciate any feedback in regards to my stats and what exactly I should do as I move forward.

*my biggest concern is whether or not I should retake my MCAT. I feel as though my MCAT is a major weak point in my application, where as everything else feels solid... yet I am here, without an interview and left questioning myself. Thanks everyone!

With your GPA and a 503 MCAT you are competitive for most DO schools. You may need a DO LOR for some schools. Apply to at least 12 schools in June and submit all your secondaries by July. You have AZCOM and ATSU-SOMA in Arizona so include those. Apply in the same time frame for MD schools and consider all these:
Arizona (Phoenix and Tucson)
Creighton
St. Louis
Loyola
Rosalind Franklin
Rush
Medical College Wisconsin
Tulane
Oakland Beaumont
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Quinnipiac
New York Medical College
GW
Georgetown
Miami
any new school that open for 2018 (Roseman, Seton Hall)
You do not need to retake the MCAT.

Thank you for the immediate feedback! I'm finishing up my overnight shift in the ER as we speak. This MCAT score has been a nightmare, so you can imagine why I am skeptical about being content with a 503. I really want to do all I can to get accepted to MD program, but I am stuck just trying to get an interview. Thank you again.

@Faha why are you recommending against a MCAT retake? OP has two scores (481 & 503)and if the schools average his score is 492. Is that really competitive for MD ( or even some DO)? Thanks for the information.

DO schools will generally look at the higher score. OP is also URM Mexican American and has a greater than 75% chance for a MD admission with a GPA of 3.94 and a MCAT of 503 (27 on old MCAT) according to the GPA-MCAT grid.

Language skills?

Are you referring to written or verbal language skills? I am well spoken and practicing on sharing my stories, and I've had several people help me with my writing for my PS primary and secondary

The boost for UiM applicants is largely because of their enhanced ability to care for the community they represent.
Do you speak Spanish?
