Hello everyone,
Received MCAT score recently, now it's time to see where I stand and what my chances are.
My application is prepared and ready to submit within the next few days, however, I'm not very happy with my MCAT score and may postpone my application a year depending on your responses. I'm fairly confident I can score higher on the MCAT, whether it's worth it or not, please advise.
Here is all the information:
1. AMCAS GPA's
cGPA: 3.74
sGPA: 3.65
Note: I have one F very early on in my undergraduate career. I retook the course next semester and received the highest grade in the class, A. Without this F both my cGPA and sGPA are 3.87. Do you guys think adcoms will take this into account?
2. MCAT Score
One take: 508 127/127/127/127
3. State of Residence
California
4. Ethnicity
I believe I'm classified as White
5. Undergraduate Institution
Top California public university, did some prerequisites in my first 2 years of undergraduate at a community college
6. Clinical Experience
Very hands on hospital volunteering 150 hrs and counting
7. Research
Data and time intensive project, over 600 hours, 13 months and counting. Non health related, ecological and environmental subject. No publications/abstracts/posters yet. Don't expect any until winter.
8. Shadowing
Neurosurgeon 60 hours, Neurologist 30 hours, Orthopedic Surgeon 30 hours - 120 hours total
9. Non-Clinical Volunteering
300 hours teaching Sunday School children, youth mentor in inner city, camp team leader
10. Extracurricular
Help organize/run local community center, basketball, mountain biking, camping
11. Honors and Awards
Cum Laude
Highest Departmental Honors
Alumni Award Scholarship ($8k over two years)
Honors Research, Honors in community college
President's List, Dean's list multiple semesters/quarters
I'm aiming for schools that will prepare me well for surgical specialties.
Thanks everyone, any advice is sincerely appreciated.
No school list included because I'm not even sure of my application this cycle. If there are any schools you think I have a healthy chance at, please do tell.
