So I have an overall GPA of 3.3. I rowed for a DI program for two years, quit to focus on school and my grades went soaring. My junior year I got a 3.6, my senior year it was a 3.86 with a 4.0 my last quarter with 4 upperdivision sciences and an upper division history. I did research for 2 years, one at a biotech company and one in ochem at my undergrad institution. I also volunteered as an EMT for over a year, shadowed physicians and have seriously kick ass LOR. I thought maybe since my GPA went up a ton my last two years, I would have a chance. Just go the MCAT back: 10 in PS, 8 in V, 9 in BS and Q in WS. I went down 9 points since my last practice test and I'm really scared about not wanting to do it again. I'm a TN state resident. Please Help!!!

Howdy, you sound kind of like me. Although you MCAT is slightly low. I am assuming that since you just got your MCAT scores and you have not submitted AMCAS. In that case, with your stats, the best thing you could do but your bets on next year's app cycle. You are late in the process, and as an underdog your best shot is to get AMCAS submitted early. I would also take the MCAT over again in april. I think its kind of a crap shoot because I did well on practice tests too (33) but got some batches of questions on the real thing that i wasnt the best at. Just try and get a 29 or above with an even distribution between the sections.

If you really want to, you can always send in a few apps this year still. Id apply to your state schools where you would probably have a better shot. You might not get in this year, but if you get your MCAT score up and apply again next year they will see that you are dedicated. Just submit next year's AMCAS by July 1st and get your secondaries in ASAP!!!

Good luck!

Thanks for the adivce. I might end up doing just that. I have, however, submitted my AMCAS and all secondaries I received. I applied to around 30 schools and did about 25 secondaries. I wanted to make sure I covered everything. I applied to a few top tier schools like Mayo but now realize there's no chance in tha. But I also applied to a ton of lower tier schools and all 4 schools in TN. I have actually sat down and talked to the Dean of Admissions at the UT-memphis school and emailed frequently with updates. When we met, he actually said all 9's on the MCAT would pretty well secure a spot considering my ECs, LOR and upward GPA. But I'm not sure if he was just talking or I still have a shot seeing how I got an 8 in verbal. I really appreciate the advice though! thanks!

You submitted AMCAS to 30 schools and then paid for 25 secondaries, and you're asking SDN about your chances?

You've already spent thousands of dollars. What do you care what someone here says? Your fate is sealed already. All you can do now is wait like the rest of us. No one here has an answer for you.

Good luck.
