So here are my stats, I was wondering if anybody had any insight as to whether i should apply this cycle and see what happens or wait for the next cycle (2011) and go to grad school in the mean time.

school: Central Michigan University
GPA: 3.48
Science: 3.56
DAT: Taking it in Mid-July
Shadowing: 40 hrs
Volunteering: At least 200 hrs.
Research: 2 semesters; Organic Chemistry

Also any tips on studying for the DAT? I bought the kaplan blue book and I have the AP bio study guide. I am most worried about the PAT. I suck at hole-punching.

Any advice at all would be great as I'm kind of freaking out😕

Your GPA looks good. Do some more shadowing. Barron's is good for PAT; also try crack the PAT. There are only three things needed to do well on the PAT: Practice, Practice, Practice! Here is something I wrote previously about the DAT.

Good luck!

2 months should be enough time to study for the DAT, if you are focused and use your time wisely. I studied for about 2 months for 6-8 hours a day, 5-6 days a week.

I took Kaplan and found most of it helpful. The online subject and practice tests are worth the money. I have heard mixed reviews about the on-site class. I had a great experience, but my Kaplan course was through a post-bac program that provided instruction that was way more in depth than the normal course. Others have thought the on-site class was crap.

I also reviewed old notes and my texts. The ADA recommended reference list is a good place to start. The ADA doesn't recommend reference texts just for the hell of it. There were MANY similarities between the information in Biology (Campbell and Reece) and questions in the bio section.😉

DAT Achiever was also a good resource and was money well spent. I took the full length tests, reviewed my scoring report, noted my weaknesses, and then went back and studied the areas in which I was weak.

Just thinking from the top of my head it doesn't look like you should have any problem getting into a dental school as long as you don't do too bad on the DAT's...

sounds like a solid set of stats. the DAT isnt everything but a good score should cement your application as well as LOR's. The PAT is an important part and yes, practice is the key. DO as many practice tests as possible because I truly believe that learning your own timing on the different sections is key. Good luck!

Buy TopScore and take there practice tests as many times as possible. Practice writing on a letter sized thin plastic dry erase board - Kaplan gave us these, not sure where you can buy them. For hole punching - drawing the dots as I visualized them helped a lot.

Good luck.

Grad school? Why? Your GPA is fine. Your application is now dependent on your July DAT score. Study hard. Your GPA is slightly below average for Detroit-Mercy and UMich, so you'll want your DAT to be at least a little above their DAT average. Get a 20+ on the DAT and you should be pretty secure. A 19 means you might get in but you'll need to worry, less than 19 you'll prob need a retake. Do well on it and you'll get in this cycle, def no need for a Masters...

Get 20+ you should safely be in serously... Michigan likes students from schools other than their own school..

Decent shot. Focus on dominating the DAT and you are guaranteed to get in somewhere.
