I would say NYU because they take a huge class size (over 220), so they must accept quite a few over that. I also think you have a good chane at BU. Both are private schools and get turned down by students who get accpeted because they are $$$$$

I am not sure if there are necessarily "easier" schools. That being said, I'm not sure whether "easy" or "hard" are appropriate terms here. Perhaps it's due to my own peculiar experience, but using myself as an example:

at the moment, I have gotten into some schools that are generally regarded as being "harder" schools to get in. However, I have not heard back from some schools that are generally regarded as being somewhat "easier."

Hence, it's just all very unpredictable until you get that acceptance letter! :)

The two dental schools with the lowest stats (GPAs and DAT scores) are Meharry Medical College and Howard University. Are they "easier" to get into? NO!

I'm with STANFORD on this one, no US dental schools are easy to get into, unless you have 3.89 cumulative and overall science GPAs, 25/24 DATs, been assisting your parents who both are dentists since you were ten years old, published 15 papers with you being the first author, and been involved in community services since you were eight!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

Every dental schools are unique in their own way, easy for you to get into may not translate to an easy school to get into for the next person and vice versa. To increase your chances of success in dental school applications, you must try to increase all aspects of your credentials. Good luck!

Stanford,Yah-E and Vixen are completely RIght..its so frustrating to hear these generalizations and opinionated "rankings" of dental schools...we haven't even started our first year of d-school and people are already turning into arrogant snobs...get a grip guys..

I HOPE it is not being insinuated that StarGirl or myself are "arrogant snobs!" We were merely answering the question asked. It IS true that some schools are easier to get into than others. This does NOT mean that the school is any worse than any other. I make this statement based on statistics. According to the ASDA the ratio of applicants to accepted students was 24/1 for Columbia and 3/1 for BU. It may be that Boston has a higher turnover rate than a school such as Columbia, or whatever, but looking at those stats, it is apparent that it is easier to get into BU than Columbia (also, when considering DAT and GPA averages). I APOLOGIZE if I offended anyone. Maybe I should have been more specific in saying EASIER to get into rather than EASY. But if I was serious about getting into dental school, I would rather be aware of these things, apply to schools I have a good chance in getting into, and not waste $ on the application process or have to wait another year b/c I applied to schools out of my league. Agree????

Where do you go to get these stats, I am interested? Do the schools release these?

    Thanks

I've been a member of the American Student Dental Association and every year they send a handbook that has all of that info plus more.

I have to agree with Regina and disagree with Stanford, Yah-E and Vixen.
There are easier schools out there--I will probably offend some people but it is the reality. Dental schools like NYU, Creighton and Nova are easy to get into. As long as you have 3.0 GPA, 18 DAT, some or no experience in dentistry, you should be able to get into these schools.

Stan--you probably got into UCSF and did not hear back from "easy" dental schools because those schools probably realized that you will not attend their school even if they accept you. Here is my proof--Loma Linda and USC did not want to interview until end of March even though I was already accepted to 10 schools in December (including UCLA and UCSF). I heard from my friend at USC that I did not get interview request until late becuase USC first interviews the people who will most likely to attend their school.

Right on Bruin. I know med schools do the same thing. I have friends who went straight to the waitlist at schools here in Michigan like Wayne St (solid school, but nothing to brag about) with 3.7 and 35 on the MCAT. It makes sense that Dental Schools do the same. Some schools are undoubtedly easier than others, and YES, some are easy regardless. After all, if you can get people to pay a quater million to go to your school, you can be less discriminating and just take people for the cash.

yes, some schools are easier to get into relative to others, but don't ever take that as a guarantee. The first time I applied, I had a 3.0 overall, 18/17 DAT/PAT, some volunteer experience, some other stuff, and didn't get in. Now I'm doing a postbacc to improve my gpa. Anyways, all I'm saying is, do your best, improve all your stats the best you can, and apply to schools you'd actually go to. I think that's the best way to go about it. I wouldn't call any school a safety school.

Hey Regina330. Do you know the ratio for U of Penn and U of MD? Does the handbook tell you which schools have low retention rates?

    Hope,

Penn had a ration of 13/1 applicants/accepted, avg GPA of 3.4 and avg DATs of 19/17.46 for last year.

    UMD was 9/1, 3.32, and 19/18

Let me know if you want anymore. Come to think of it, maybe I'll post them all later on for everyone applying!
