I took today off from work to study. (I normally have Fridays off anyway because I work Sundays.) I am taking the Harcourt online test sections I haven't finished yet (I only have the reading now). And it is definitely worth the $19, if only for the confidence boost alone because I am finding it to be WAAAAAY easier than Kaplan, in terms of content and time to finish (It's unlimited time, but I am timing myself based on the time per question on the real test).

I am going over my notes and reading, looking up some last minute questions, and trying to review missed questions and things that are still a little fuzzy.

I am also eating well, exercising hard, and relaxing, you know, trying to chill out a little bit.

(Oh yeah, and I am trying to not waste too much time on SDN. Hee hee)

So how are you using your last two days?
Good luck everyone!

:luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

Same here. I'm surprised that the Practice Tests had so much organic chem. Not good for me. Also, didn't know there would be so much trig either.

Blech...

I can't wait till it's over.

What are the last things you are reviewing?
I am reviewing:

ln and e and associated calculus
word roots
kidneys
electrochemical cells
SN2, Cis, Trans

Trig, chem, and o. chem.

What fun!

Oh, and related rates (had no idea it would be on there).

I'm so glad I took the practice tests.

I'm just doing practice tests and going over formulas (math and chem).

Honestly, I didn't do ANY studying for the vocab section, my mind is already full of bio, chem, math and other stuff. I just figure what I get in the vocab section is what I get; and if I don't get accepted to pharm school b/c I didn't know what supercalifragilistic meant then it's their loss.

what is SN2? 🙁

Sn2 reactions are concerted (one-step) nucleophilic substitution reactions that occur with alkyl halides. The order of reactivity is methyl, primary, secondary and Sn2 reactions do not occur with tertiary alkyl halides. They exhibit bimolecular kinetics, hence the 2 in Sn2. There is multiple other factors that also go into determining the final product. It is based on the leaving group, the solvent and steric hindrences. You will also always have inversion of configuration with Sn2 reactions.

There are Sn2 rxns on the PCAT?? darn! We're just learning about them in ochem 1 this next week... guess I have to read my assigned ochem chapter today and tmr... was going to wait til after the PCAT to tackle ochem stuff hardcore for midterms... luckily should be good right now (biol midterm tmr!!)for Respiration and Fermentation for the biol section🙂 Good luck everyonE

I guess this rule is fair game then? Is in Orgo I :scared:

all I know is that SN2 is some sort of o-chem mechanism. Anymore than that, beats me!

Yeah, all I did was watch some animations of Sn1 and Sn2. Before I saw that, all I knew is they had something to do with Organic, but I can't remember if it was Organic I or II.

Anyway: Sn1: two step, carbocation formation is slow, and then nucleophile attack is fast and can happen on either side, leading to a racemic mixture.

Sn2: single step: nucleophile attack blends with carbocation formation.

But I didn't go as in depth as pharmdwannabe did, so don't take my word for it. Oh well! I think that is fine enough for tomorrow, at least enough to wing it if it is even on the PCAT.

Well, the only reason why I know about Sn2 and Sn1, for that matter is because just took my second test in O-Chem last week and it was all about substitution and elimination reactions! YUCK! So, it's engrained in my brain right now. I wish I could get a better handle on general Chem. I am fretting that part of the PCAT! Oh yea, and the quantitative ability section! :scared:

dang there's a lot of trig!!! here's how i did on my 1st practice test: math 76% verbal 80% biology 60% (YIKES) chem 80% (another YIKES) reading comp 88%. guess i have a lot to learn tonight!!! good luck all. 😱

It's ok. I didn't do that sexy either. *sigh* But hey, your reading comp is pretty good! =) I hope that Kaplan's test is a lot harder than the actual PCAT. Kaplan is 10000000000000x more time consuming and a little twisted. Kaplan sucks so bad on the o-chem section. There's like what?? Only a 10 page chapter that covers o-chem? And there aren't even any rxns! Come on, we need more than that! I'm a little worried though cus I haven't look at related rates (calculus) and the real o-chem stuff yet. *sigh* I guess I'll be winging that stuff tomorrow.
Good luck everyone! 🙂

I just took the practice tests from the kaplan book..well basically i think they kinda suck. There's no ochem on the chem section, and barely any geom. or Calc on math part. Maybe I just have an older book? its 2004-2005. And is it just me, or is it like impossible to finish math part on kaplan's tests? Hopefully the real thing is alot easier, it was a breeze when I took it 2 yrs ago. Im spending the day napping and eating Hagen-Danz outside and catchin up on my family guy eps  Need to let my brain sort out like 2 years of science and math I crammd in there over last few weeks. Anyways GL to all =)
