I was going threw Hi yield bio chem, and was wondering do I need to know all those pathways? (e.g. pentose phosphate, beta-oxidations, etc.) Is knowing the kreb cycle and glycolsis in detail enough? And just knowing the gist of the other pathways enough? Or do I need to know all the important ones in detail? If so which ones a considered important enough to know verbatim? If this ? has been answered before can someone provide a link?
Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

whatever is in first aid should be enough
you dont need to know that much, the basics of all those pathways. know that the number one inherited biochemical deficinency is the urea cycle defect, um i dont remember the specific one, you'll figure it out

i'd also like to know ( from those who have taken step 1 already).. whether they have any questions that are not really 'disease based'. for example.. has anyone got questions that simply wanted to know which tca cycle intermediate can be sent to amino acid production? or like given a pathway, just a question on which enzyme /what regulates it? stuff that are biochemical pathways but are not releated to a disease process.

thanks.

i think j_sde raises a good question. any takers?

Q bank definitely includes some questions that a "non-clinical" biochem. I even encountered ine that asked for an ATP tally from one 16-C fatty acid.

I think that clinical facts will be more high yield, but even then, knowing the pathways makes it easier to remember that OTC deficiency is the cause of ammonia buildup in a ure cycle disorder, etc.

i take the test 6/17. anybody out there take it already and come across straight biochem questions?
