Hello everyone,

I have a question as to what you guys do when you get an offer of acceptance. If the school urges you to reply within a week, what do you say if you are still thinking about the school but not set on it (still waiting to hear from others)?

If you accept, does that mean you're bound to this school and only this one or that you're free to "accept" offers from other schools until May 15th? What does the school think/expect when you accept their offer?

Thanks in advance. =)

You are free to keep changing your mind until May 15th. Some schools will ask you to send in a deposit to keep a spot, but even this is refundable until May 15th. So, if in dobut, accept, and you can change your mind later. Hmmm....people on waitlists might hate your guts, but hey.....:D

As long as you're seriously considering the school, keep your slot. But try not to hold more than two acceptances for very long.

I agree. If a school gives you a week (and hey, that's a pretty short time... 2 weeks would be more reasonable), let them know at the end of it. If you're holding another acceptance, choose one. I think it's impolite at best and unethical at worse to hold multiple accepts. By a week or two after your interview, when you've had a chance to think it over and ask any questions you have, you should know the rank order of your short list.

Any "yes" said before May 15 is only tenative. The schools know this. If you're waiting for a school that decides late, then wait, and change your mind if you desire. After all, 7 (or 8, or 9... eek!) is a large part of your life. You have to do what's best for you.

you can dwell on its symbolic significance, you can eat it, or you can use it as toilet paper. but savor every moment you have with it.
