Hello everyone,

Just got the MCAT back, and I got a 28. I have a GPA of 3.54 and a Science GPA of 3.34. Do you think this is good enough to get into medical school? Thanks for your help.

Well, here is a little bit more info.

I've had two years of research at a hospital, 1 year of volunteering, many pre-med clubs, and a few paid positions of leadership. If there is any other information you need to make an opinion, please let me know 🙂

Thanks again.

IMHO If you are an Ohio resident as stated under your avatar and you want to attend medical school in Ohio you will be fine as long as you do not screw up your interviews. Good luck.

👍 👍

i think you should be fine. wright state, osu, and UC are usually quite friendly to miami students (you do go to miami, right?).

I am a microbiology major from Miami University. Over the past two summers, I have performed microbiology research at a hospital. The project I did last summer was presented to the American Association for Microbiology last May by my supervisor.

Volunteer work has been mainly in a local hospital around my school. I volunteered only in the Emergency department for the whole year. In 2003, I had a team for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

I had a job this past school year as an RA in a freshman hall. That's pretty much a 24/7 job when you're dealing with a corridor of 40 freshman.

Ethnicity: caucasian. Gender: male. Age: 21.

I think my personal statement was pretty strong. I tried to talk about two extremes of medicine that I've experienced (medical research and pure patient observation) and tied them together and gave my opinion of how these two extremes influenced me towards medicine.

I have 6 letters of recommendation from professors, and one from a physician. My school's premed committee has possession of them all, so I'm not sure about what's written on them. But I know the professor's pretty well, so I'm not too worried about those.

Thanks again for your responses! You guys are the best. 🙂
Good Luck to everyone!

i'd say your application sounds great. all of your ECs will play very well at wright state (they love that sort of stuff), but now that i think about it, the #'s may be a bit on the low side for ohio state; especially given their new "we-must-beat-michigan-at-everything" focus on MCAT scores, etc.

things seem good from here. 👍

Thank you very much for you help!

I would expect to get into a DO school. Retake the MCAT and get a 32+, and I think you'll get into a MD school.
