I am a microbiology major from Miami University. Over the past two summers, I have performed microbiology research at a hospital. The project I did last summer was presented to the American Association for Microbiology last May by my supervisor.
Volunteer work has been mainly in a local hospital around my school. I volunteered only in the Emergency department for the whole year. In 2003, I had a team for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.
I had a job this past school year as an RA in a freshman hall. That's pretty much a 24/7 job when you're dealing with a corridor of 40 freshman.
Ethnicity: caucasian. Gender: male. Age: 21.
I think my personal statement was pretty strong. I tried to talk about two extremes of medicine that I've experienced (medical research and pure patient observation) and tied them together and gave my opinion of how these two extremes influenced me towards medicine.
I have 6 letters of recommendation from professors, and one from a physician. My school's premed committee has possession of them all, so I'm not sure about what's written on them. But I know the professor's pretty well, so I'm not too worried about those.
Thanks again for your responses! You guys are the best. 🙂
Good Luck to everyone!
