It's just a way of bringing the thread up from Hades, so it's on page 1. :)

That is a good question

Bump is if you want a particular thread to get "bumped" to the top of the first page. Things tend to get pushed down the list very quickly--bump keeps your thread/a thread you are interested fresh. :)So, bump away!

ahhh i see! my closest guess was that it was related to the elusive "B-U-M-B" in the song big pimpin...and i thought perhaps this thread might kill two birds with one stone, but i s'pose not. thanks though!

Anyway, this question and a few others (how many posts to senior member, what do various abbreviations mean, etc) seem to come up every so often. Maybe there should be an SDN FAQ for some of this stuff.

I never knew bump stood for something! What about bumpity-bump?

what came first the word or the Acronym for the word?

i think it was the acronym, cuz there are better ways to say "i'm just posting to bring this to the top."

so someone noticed that bring up my post is BUMP and there it went. or would that still mean BUMP came first and then the guy said "oh that's like bring up my post. cool, i'll use that" so tough to know...maybe we'll never have an answer. but we do know why the post crossed the road right?

Do a search, you'll find tons of info on bumps!

I dunno, I think the acronym was built around the word.

Alien: did you make that up?

Hehe, seems like a silly thread. Bump seems just an easy way of pulling up a post, and using a word everyone knows, just means you wanted to pull up a post.

No people, I didnt make it up. Its one of the few things I learned from being a chat freak :p <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

This is hilarious.

Great throwback song and a total misquote of it...It's the rapper Bun B spelling his name out; however, I do wish that "bump" was related to "Bun B" -- that would be epic.

Oh you 2002 SDNers and your lack of pop culture awareness.

Maybe it has something to do with B2K's song "Bump Bump Bump."
