I have a question about the short-hand for call schedules in Freida. Could someone please translate "q3d-2mo" for me? I know that q3d is every 3 days, but does the 2mo mean that call is only taken for 2 months out of the year, or that it is taken 2 months on, 2 months off?

Thanks in advance.

That usually means you will be taking call every 3rd night for a period of two months. During a residency year, depending on specialty, you will have a varied schedule. You may do a couple of months of q3 call, several months of q4, maybe some clinic months with no call, and (don't know with the work hour rules) even q2 call.

Another important thing to research in residencies if you're concerned about call is what time you get to leave in the AM. q3 call leaving right after rounds may be much better than q4 call leaving at 7 PM post call.

I'd be suspicious. I think it's far more likely to have q3 call for all EXCEPT two months rather than the other way around. Just call the program or check out their website.
