Hi
I Don't know what electives I want to take/will help me succeed in college applications. My school is pretty small, and we don't get many choices in electives in freshman, and sophomore year. I want to take Spanish, but don't know what my second one should be. I'll give course descriptions. Also I have NO desire to take chorus or band.
Technology Engineering and Design
Engineering is a process not just practiced by engineers but also practiced by artists, business leaders, and builders to name just a few. Interested students only need be curious about how science, engineering and technology impact life and be willing to exercise creativity. The principles and practices of engineering will be explored through hands-on and computer-based activities supported by discussion, presentations and research. This course allows students to see the inter-relationship of science and the world we live in.
Film Studies
This course introduces students to video production and live streaming. Students will be given hands-on experience in every aspect of media broadcasting including digital camcorder operation, shot composition, continuity, and digital editing. Students will develop skills in writing, interviewing, research techniques, ethics in media, and libel law. Once these foundation skills are mastered, students will engage their online audience with live video streams on their own channel and on the Harwich Public School website. Students will produce a variety of media projects such as collaborating in school based projects, news magazine programs, and presentations. Designed as community service learning course, students will be required to film extra-curricular projects such as school committee meetings, sporting events, theatre productions, etc.
History of Rock
Students will explore various genres of recent music by studying their origins, exploring their history, critically listening to examples, analyzing their elements, connecting to social historical factors, researching representative artists, pieces, and lyrics, performing selected examples, and analyzing the performances. Students will be expected to document their research, write detailed analysis, and play an instrument or sing in group performances. Students need not be masters of an instrument or voice to enroll, but must be willing to learn. This course alternates years with Music Theory.
Photography
This year long hands on course will emphasize creative photography as an art media. Students will learn how to take both film and digital images, use and care of film and digital cameras, and investigate the benefits of both formats. The history of photography from its beginning to its uses today in art, graphic design, and popular media will be investigated. Time will be spent using traditional 35mm cameras, black and white film, and learning how to develop and print their own pictures. Digital work will include the use of scanners, cameras, large format printing, altered forms, and Photoshop. Students will work both in and out of class on school wide projects. Projects will include personal imagery, photographing events that showcase academic and co-curricular programs, and integrating photography into other art forms.
Students wishing to pursue photography as a career or for further study may contract with the instructor to take Photography 2
Studio 1
This is an introductory art class designed to cover the basic elements of art through exploration of drawing, painting, and sculpture with clay, plaster, wire, paper mache, mask making, cartooning, and printmaking.
I honestly have NO idea what other than Spanish I want to take.
