I got an 8 in verbal on the april MCAT. I used the EK 101 book, while taking the Kaplan course. I am thinking that I should but the EK VR book and follow their strategy b/c it contradicts Kaplan's strategy. I was consistently getting 9's on the EK101 book, I feel it was very similar to the real thing, but I felt the passages on EK were way to interesting and easy to read. What can I do to get experience with hard passages. My friend told me to read the wall street journal, should I try this?
Thanks for any help

For Verbal, here's what I did--

I started out with a 7 or an 8 on the practice tests. Each time I took a practice test from then on, I made myself do it in 75 minutes instead of 85. this way, I got really good at finding the key points. I also found that instead of "mapping" out the entire passage, I just circled words that seemed important, and would help me remember the structure of the passage. I then spent much more time going back to the passage while answering the questions. I ended up with an 11 in verbal, but I was getting 12's and 13's in the practice tests... I found that this strategy also helped me a lot with the phys and bio sections (13's in both, whereas i started with 8's and 9's)

7. For verbal, use the EK strategy that has been discussed in other threads. (understand the main idea, its that simple) For practice, visit http://www.economist.com/books/ ; try to read each essay in 3 minutes or less, with the sole purpose of answering "why did the author write this essay?". Your answer should be no longer than 2 sentences.

Thanks, I will try the economist link, but how do I know if I summerized correctly? I guess I should let someone else read it and see if we get similar results.
