What Extracariculars would you put on AAMC

Okay I need a little input on what you would put on the activities section of the AAMC app and what you would leave off.

1. Mission trip to the Dominician Republic
2. People to People trip to Australia
3. Student Government
4. Study Buddies (help kids with homework and stuff)
5. AUCME (led worship services at different churches)
6. TA for gen chem
7. TA for inorganic chem
8. TA for inorganic lab
9. TA for weather
10. TA for astronomy
11. Poster presentation on hetercycle synthesis
12. Research on quantum confined materials
13. Research on metaloporphyrins
14. Shadowed internist
15. Shadowed surgeon
16. Volunteered at inner city clinic
17. National Deans List
18. College prof for 3 years

Any input would be appreciated. I know I have room for 15 and was thinking of dropping some education stuff like TA'ing weather and astronomy but I am not 100% sure what to do.

No I went to grad school so that added an extra year and a half for research and some more TAing. So all that is a 5.5 year span instead of 4.

Is their an unsaid rule that says you need to fill all 15 spots or it okay to put 12 or 13 on there.

12 or 13 is fine...I know one person who only put 4...and did just fine.

You need not fill 15. I agree with Chubbiechaser and would have collapsed the list the same way.

Thanks for all the quick responses. I am just a little stressed about the upcomming release of the 2009 app. I only have one shot to get in (wifes rules) and I can really only afford to go to IU. Hopefully things work out for me

I think you can fit them all in by categorizing all the TA things together in one thing and using the description section to name the courses and time frame you were TA for each individual course.

OK first of all- isn't people to people for MS and HS students??? If so remember that only things you did in college or beyond count... but seeing you have down as a college prof maybe you taught that??

Group all the TA stuff together
Group all your shadowing together

You are now under 15

I didn't know that would not count. I figured that it was a cultural experience that caused me to grow as a person and therefore imprtant on the application. If I am wrong that is cool I will just leave it off.

What they said is correct. Only college and post highschool events and such occur.

That said, you can talk about People to People in your ps if it really was that important.
