What happens if you get off the waitlist at your dream school after classes already start at the school you're already accepted to?

I'm currently holding an acceptance at one DO school (let's call it "School A"), but waitlisted at my dream DO school ("School B"). A starts classes in July, while B starts in August.

If I start classes at A, and then get the acceptance from B, is there anything that would prevent me from pulling out and switching to school B? Financial matters aside, do schools have policies saying you can't go there if you've already started elsewhere?

Thats kind of late. If you have to pay your first tuition installment youll be on the hook for it. Otherwise I guess you could?

yeah the school I’m currently accepted to has a tuition refund policy if you withdraw within the first month, so from that standpoint I think (hope) it would be ok

Had this happen at my school. They just lost 3 weeks of their free time studying anatomy and had to pay to break their lease. They went to the other school without issue

You leave your current school, lose your deposit and tuition (or part of it), have to break a lease, and then go to your dream school.

Can't do this with MD schools. Score one more for LCME over COCA

I'm in the exact same predicament except waitlisted at an MD school. Like others have said, the only thing holding you back would be to have the financial means of breaking your lease. I would also make sure your financial aid for the other school isn't delayed.

Ok, thank you both! I realize that this late in the cycle it is unlikely that a WL spot would turn into an acceptance, but I wanted to know in the off chance that dreams do come true...
