things soon get out of ur hands, isn`t it ?
I want to ba ......hmmm.....Im not sure actually ....
90 % chance that i won`t any of the choices u gave ....so 90% chance that i`ll go for pre-clinic or para-clinic subjects . anatomy is a dead subject ( almost ) so it doesn`t interest me much . forensic medicine -I don`t want to get inside the minds of crminals , so this is also cancelled . Out of the remaining ...Physiology is good but it`s rapidly progressive , there is scope for a lot of research , But im yet to come across a person who advises me to opt for this branch ...let`s see what happens . Biochemistry is challanging, absorbing , very interesting subjects . U are always in the thick of the things . so most like  . Microbilogy is good .it offers maximum range of oppurtunites after u finish MD micro .But i hate that time when i had to mug up all those culture medias & biochemical reactions . that might b due the fact i did`t try to undrestand the concept & went for slogging . Let`s see how it unfolds inside my mind . Pharmac is very challanging .One can play aminor part in a sort of community service by try to figure out new drugs or new ways to tackle the comminicable diseases like malaria which take ahuge toll on humans . actually i find this subject a bit t ough so i`m not sure abt my abilities wheather i can succed in it or not . Last one is pathology .i can`t prepare & handle those microscopic slides . Though i think almost everytghing in medicine school syllabus takes something out of pathology . I won`t go for it ..i`m almost sure .
well...My aim is to go for research work whichever field it involves . basic sciences offer the most of the chances for a back-room (not the clinical , in the field )type of research ..that`s i`m inclined to it .
there r a lot mor ethings in my mind ...may b we will keep that for future when ur thread start lagging & u appeal to ppl to b serious ! lol ;) just kidding .

Hey , u didn`t tell abt urself !

 remembering that crap was really pain in neck!!but in the end it is essentially a easy subject coz i managed to get D in micro ;) - my only D till date :p I sometimes imagine how microbiologists come up with such bizzarre culture media such as brain heart infusion agar or they manage to cultivate those crooked lepra bacteria in nine banded armadillos and foot pad of nine day old mice.

Pharmac is very challanging .
 surely a lucrative branch with load of clinical trial now being outsourced to india the demand for pharmacologist is going up. I know of one guy who changed over to pharmac after getting ortho at BJMC pune. I seriously thinking of taking up pharmac but at this moment i am not sure of anything

Last one is pathology
 oh its my favourite subject. i just love to read robbins.... but as a career ....never thought about it..... not a bad option at all..... i think hottest specialities of future are goig to be paraclinical specialities.

that`s interesting , isn`t it ? everything has to b precise .

oh yeah .. robbins is the best book to read after harrison .i just luv these two ..lol ..the books ,not ...

I really surprised to see how few people are actually interested in ER. I don't even think it was listed as one of the specialties.

1) It's fast-paced and romantic
2) learn something new everyday
3) you only work like 12-14 shifts a month
4) you won't be woken up at all odd hours of the night koz someone else can always cover you
5) money's not too bad

You're right. I didnt say what I wanted to be. Thats coz I'm really not sure what it is I want to be.
did think about going to paraclinical fields which practically i find nonstressing but reading all that theory would give me hives. opposite is true for clinical branches ( the clinics give me hives and i dont mind reading it up though).
after much thinking I have ruefully narrowed down to Internal Medicine and Physical medicine and rehab. of these PM&R is my personal favourite but not sure how I'd fare in INdia after doing that (were I to return). IM is good everywhere and anywhere. thats one branch thats never gonna be out anywhere in the world and which i being a girl can still survive.(OB i cant stand becoz of all the bitchiness going around  )

I would like to do pediatrics

Confused what u want to do in future? take this simple test & know where interest lies. Results may not be quite shocking sometimes i mean u might end up having geriatrics as u first speciality of choice when u r interested in pediatrics :D. The test analyses ur aptitudes and not u r interests so preapared to be shocked! ;)

yeah radio rocks its also one of top most specialities in India. i dont know the situation in usa but its surely tough to get radio here. Nowadays poeple are talking of doing superspecialisation in radio such as neuro radio or interventional radio since plain radio diagnosis field is reaching saturation point.
I think its far more easier for fmgs to get a residency in IM.

Its an aptitude test boy.
dont u think aptitude and interest can be different. aptitude is an inherent ability, as for learning a particular thing. its a talent we have in a particular thing. If u have an aptitude for something u learn it very quickly with a deep understanding of the subject. I think its most appropriate to do things for which u have the aptitude. otherwise u end up being a frustrated soul.
Aptitude is supposed to judge ur character's predisposition towards a particular field.what ur persona is good for and what not.

having said all the crap in the world can u tell me why u love orhtopedics so much?

aptitude for a particular thing doesnt vary from country to country. ;)

Oh that test is cumbersome some 130 odd questions..... its quite frustrating u have to answer same questions again and again so i quit it now .... i'll take it next time. and buffalo link isnt working. Why should there be such disparity between the results of these two differents test???

u have a point trinity! btw the reason i like ortho is because it is everything I ever liked physics, joint mechanics, surgery and sometimes simple carpentery, which i kinda enjoy too.

i think this cover pretty much sum it all

I havne't started med school yet, but I'd like to practice Internal medicine. Although I'm also facinated by psychology.

Just curious, How hard is it to get a job here in the US with a degree in Psych from an Indian Med School?

You dont get a degree in psychology from a medical school, you have to go to graduate school for that.

If you are talking about Psychiatry, the medical specialty, it is fairly easy to obtain it since there is not much competition for it by US grads. Internal medicine is also fairly easy to obtain. Matching for specialty after IM could be tough depending on what the competition for it is. Cardiology used to be impossible, but now that not many US grads want it, it is not impossible for an IMG to obtain it. GI is pretty impossible though.

Derm, Radiology, Plastic surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Optho, Neurosurgery, Emergency Medicine are some of the other ones that are pretty hard for IMG's to obtain.
