From what I learned, many people do not like J1 visa because they have to stay in their home country for at least 2 years after residency/fellowship, before they can come back to the US. But is it really very difficult to find a faculty postion in the US when you come back?
And I also know that people are very well paid in many countries if they are American trained.
So I'm very curious why most people dislike the home country issue?

I think you've described it exactly. Many people want to stay in the US. Yes, you will find it more difficult to find a position in the US if you return to your home country for 2 years, although that depends on the country to some extent -- if you work in Canada or the UK, you prob won't have much of a problem. If you work in a third world country, you will likely have more trouble. But, it's possible.

You always have the choice of a J waiver position, but those have their own issues.
