What is considered "early" FAFSA filing?

In some of my interviews, the financial aid officers stressed the importance of filing your fafsa early in order to get the "free" money...grant money. They said these funds were limited and disbursed on a first-come-first-basis. So what would be considered "early" filing of the fafsa in order to have a chance at these funds?
