    Cleveland!!

    How is the downtown area?

Are there lots of Korean restaurants?

Actually, there have been approximately two Korean international dental students per each class at Case.

I've had no chance to contact with any of them. SILENCE!!

Ok~ let me know more about Cleveland.

    JUST ANYTHING~~~

cleveland downtown.. it 's not NYC
but lots of restaurants, ok clubs and bars.
may enjoy cavs, indians, browns game as often as you'd like.

I live in the suburbs of Cleveland, and its pretty good. You have just about everything you need and its not too far from the downtown area (~15 min). That said, I don't go into the city very much, there are a few places worth going to, but the nice ones are pricey and the cheap ones are scary (in my opinion, anyway!)

I have lived in the suburbs of Cleveland my whole life---except for the winter weather I like it here a lot. The downtown area can be dangerous like any big city, but it can also be a lot of fun! Are you moving here with a family?

Hey, I've lived in Cleveland's eastern suburbs, about 20-25 mins away from Case for 17+ years, and I have to say I love the city.

Like most people, I think the winters can be brutal, but fall is quite gorgeous and the winter weather helps me appreciate spring!

Case is really close to Little Italy, a great Italian village filled with restaurants and shops. It is also quite close to Coventry, another little area with great restaurants (lots of Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Malaysian food!) and a movie theater showing foreign films and documentaries (Cedar Lee Theater).

I also have a few Korean friends who go to Case for Nursing and they live in the Triangle Apartments (within walking distance to Case); they say that many Koreans live there.

I hope this helps! In dental school, you won't have much time to go out, but there are several fun things to do nearby (mostly going out to eat, going downtown to see plays or musical performances, walking around University Circle to go to the art museum or botanical gardens, or seeing movies).

Also, I don't know about the bar scene - sorry!

I've lived in cleveland my whole life (21 yrs), and I went to undergrad at case
    personally, I HATE cleveland.

    There are 2 korean restaurants

it is an INDUSTRIAL city, don't let anybody fool you otherwise. it is NOTHIGN like nyc or chicago. there is no good shopping (no shopping AT ALL downtown besides tower city, which is juss basically a cr*ppy mall with like Jcrew and abercrombie kind of stores)

there's not a lot of diversity, the clubs are kinda seedy, the bars are ok
the nice (and when I say nice, i mean the areas that are not some kind of steel or car or any kind of FACTORY) areas are ok...but it's not like nyc where ppl just walk around downtown and find things to do. you really ahve to have a plan bc just walking around, you won't really see much except a few restaurants, a couple of clubs, and some bars. no interesting shops...nothing like that.

the restaurants downtown are ok, not great, not a ton of choices.

There's a bunch of fobby koreans around campus, and then a bunch of really americanized koreans (i'm korean too lol), not a lot of in betweeners...it's kind of weird.

little italy is nice for like a lil while, but after like a year in cleve you'll have done all there is to do, and seen all there is to see. it's really, unfortunately, a dying city in my opinion.

you HAVE to have a car. cedar lee theater (mentioned above) is like a 10-15 min drive from case campus.

coventry has a few restaurants, but it's honestly boring too unless you like going to the same bars every weekend. it's not w/in walking distance either. in fact, none of the things mentioned are w/in walking distance. also, tehre are no cabs in cleveland, you have to call and order one if u need it.

so basically...if you are like me and you like the big city kind of life (like NYC), you will probably hate cleveland like I do.

I agree with 90% of what p0lkad0t has to say; you do need a car, you probably will end up going to the same places over and over, and there aren't many places that you can just go to and see what's there, you go somewhere knowing what you'll do there. However, I think the shopping in the suburbs is really good. I am a fan of Beachwood Place, and Legacy Village just got a Nordstrom Rack. I know people that travel from far away to go to shop in that area. There's also a few good shopping places in the West side (can't remember the names), but I hardly ever feel the need to go there. I hope this helps!

    thanks for you guys' participation!!

I could learn more about living in Cleveland.

Ok! Sounds like it's not too bad!!

However, I've heard there are really lots of Korean people in Cleveland.

There must be more than four Korean restaurants.

I'm Korean too! I am almost certain that I'll be attending Case
I'm from Toronto and I'm a little worried about the major life style change that I have to acclimate to
I'm excited to see many koreans involved in SDN and have interest for CASE :D

well how bad could it be? people live there

In huge metropolitan cities "poor" doesn't mean a lot because of the massive urban sprawl. Keep in mind Miami is in the Top 5 poorest cities. I live in sunny Florida but I can tell you clearly that I love Cleveland and you will too as long as you're not like these people and compare it to Honolulu.

I have family in Euclid area I visit often and I'll tell you that city has some of the nicest people I've met anywhere. Check out Little Italy close to Case. Mama Santa's at the end of the street has the best pizza you'll ever try, the wine is good but cheap, and the Italian bakeries along the area are to die for. You have three major sports teams, the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, and a ton of beautiful suburbs with shopping and good food: Westlake, Chagrin Falls, Lakewood...

For the most part, Korean food sucks. Any successful Korean restaurant tend to be a fusion of some sort, especially with Japanese/Chinese.

Anyways, if you really wanted to have a choice of more than 4-5 Korean restaurants, you guys should've aimed for a school on the east/west coasts.

Yeah Beachwood is nice. A new entertainment plaza is there, Legacy Village, if you like you're Cheesecake Factory, Melting Pot, Brio etc..

I've stayed at the Ritz a few times in downtown Cleveland and thats connected to a pretty cool mall, Tower City.

i said that when i wanted to come here for undergrad... and the moment i got off the plane i realized the reality that cleveland is one of the poorest city in the nation... and didn't like it afterwards.... i dont' know maybe its because im used to the city.. but cleveland wasnt what i expected

and no there are max 5 k restaurants in cle. and 3 of them are outside of cle. but not too far but have to go on the highway.

another thing: the restaurants here are very rude. no competition probably makes it that way. unless you order 13 orders of kalbi. the owner will look down at you if you ask for more refills for sidedishes. service is very slow. very rude.
but there is a pretty nice bakery.. i like and i will miss when i move away. koko bakery.

That's exactly what happened right outside of Temple Dental School recently. Temple's in the ghettos = great clinical experience. But don't let a couple of muggings stop you from going to any great school - you just need some street smarts and knowing what part of the city is safe/unsafe will help you avoid those bad situations.

i don't know but some people do. or those ghetto people who live there cross INTO campus and try to mugg u in front of the library... there r alot of incidents like that around campus. if you go to the 'wade oval' at night (where all the museums are and all)... this is considered on campus too. people get mugged get a gun pointed at.. stuff like that...
