This discussion could go on forever, but one is a cyst and one isn't so histologically that's simple, and dentigerous cysts are associated with teeth and typically are circumscribed to the CEJ of the offending tooth whereas the Ameloblastoma doesn't need to be associated with a tooth, and can be multilocular and is associated with more expansile symptoms then the cyst.
