Answered What is the moral, ethical thing to do?

I know this individual who has lied on their med school app by not disclosing a cheating ia that they received and is now about to matriculate. The transcript just says incomplete, so they took the class again at a CC and claimed that the "I" is bc they didn't finish the class due to COVID.

This infuriates me and I feel like it's my ethical duty to notify their school of their status. (They also made up a bunch of other things on their app - for ex, they put that they were a TA when they weren't).

Is this the right thing to do? I feel like my silence is further advancing a cheater into an honorable profession.

It's the right thing to do, but it will be ignored by Admissions, as accusations for outside sources (like, say, an angry ex-SO) can't be distinguished from honest complaints of accusations.

Admissions will be checking IAs anyway, as part of thier due diligence, and if there is a record of this IA with the Dean's office or Registrar, this person will likely have their acceptance rescinded.

Personally, wouldn't get involved in this as it will likely take care of itself as they will look into this kinda thing. Focus on your studies.

Their transcripts have been accepted by the school and they're scheduled for orientation next month. Doesn't this mean that they've slid through?

It would be a waste of manpower to complete due diligence before students actually matriculate. Validation and subsequent investigation can take months to years.

Sorry to say this, but it's no longer your problem. We cannot take accusations from unreliable or unsubstantiated sources. Ultimately it is the med school who has responsibility to do their checks and it's too much effort to investigate.

Do you think this is ok that med schools are basically letting liars get away with IAs because it's too much investigating? Like what's the reasoning behind not verifying something that's a make or break?

Does it bother you that many students or faculty that are in the health professions refuse to get COVID-19 vaccines (looking at Dr./Sen. Rand Paul)? Or that for decades medicine has persisted in teaching some medical concepts that might be rooted in eugenics and racism? There are a LOT of things that should bother you about the community of physicians. Investigating charges of lying and plagarism take a LONG TIME.

Do what you can to improve it, but this situation is NOT YOUR PROBLEM.
