What is the salary range of optometrist in Houston, TX?

I am thinking of choosing an optometry as my career. I have two questions to ask. Please help me.

1. Can anybody tell me what is the average salary range of an optometrist in the nation and in Houston, TX?
2. Where do optometrist usually ending up working? Hospital or private industry or somewhere else?

All I know is that the salary range in Houston is much lower than the national average.

Pretty much anyone trying to practice in the city where there's an OD school is going to have it rough. (too much competition)

I agree, any state with an optometry school would have alot of competition.
