What kind of MCAT and EC's would I need to get into some of the SMPs?

  1. Pre-Medical
I am applying in June 2009, for Fall 2010 Medical school, but I don't know (doubtful) I will get into medical school.

I have a 3.30 GPA steady with very slight upward trend ( I hope to get straight A's in the next 5 semesters, which could bring it up to around a 3.5 overall, and 3.75 BCPM.

My EC's -

-Organizations (No Exec)
-Tri Beta (Biological Honors Society)
-Alpha Epsilon Delta (Pre Health Honors Society)
-Bio Mentors (Program where I tutor undergrads)

-I volunteered for a year (3 Semesters) at the ER in my home town, 4 hours a week every Saturday morning at 8 AM. It ended up being around 100 hours.
-Relay for life, how do medical schools follow up on that?

-I worked as a automotive mechanic for two years (Freshmen and Sophomore)
-I worked as a Laboratory Manager for a semester

-I have two semesters of research experience, around 16 hours a week in the lab, for both semesters, working in a lab that studies Hepatitis C.

I also volunteered at the ribbon cutting ceremony at my university, showing some of the guests around the new building, and stuff. (Is that even worth putting on an app?)

I Have bad ADD, so I need to have plans in place for everything I do, even if I don't follow them, or else I will never focus on what I need to focus on.

So, would I have a chance at some SMP's if I don't get into medical school?

I have done all the pre reqs for medical school. Like I said, I have been pretty steady at 3.30, with fluctuations from 3.0 to 3.6. but never below 3.0.

What kind of MCAT score would I need to get into some of the different tier SMP programs?

Some schools I really want to attend are Ohio State, UF, UCLA, USC, FSU. And there are plenty of others that I will apply to.

Could I (what would I have to do, to get there) make it into any smp programs that would help me get into one of those schools above?

33+ would go a long way to getting into med school or an SMP.

but i think it is too early to think SMP. Just do everything you can to ace the next 2 years and apply with a 3.5/3.75 and a 33+. You are on the right track with your ECs. A broad app with those numbers give you a good shot.
