I added one more to the top - Expansion Outro by Talib Kweli (can't believe I forgot it, as it was the first song to pull me into the genre).

Metal, predominantly Prog, Doom, Death, and Black.

Examples: Opeth, Katatonia, My Dying Bride, Agalloch, Swallow the Sun, Gorgoroth, Belphegor, Behemoth, Emperor, Wintersun, Dream Theater...

Good stuff
I'm seeing Opeth live in San Fransisco in October :D They're pretty much gods!

Although I have been pretty much obsessed with Porcupine Tree lately :p Also some other prog rock bands like Pink Floyd, Camel, and Yes.

While driving, anything by Beni Benassi or Tiesto is great. Both are excellent DJ's! My favorites among rock/alternative artists are, Coldplay, yellow card, good charlotte and robbie williams. Sometimes, I'll also listen to hip hop, mainly by kanye west and lil wayne.

Pac, Big, Nas (illmatic all day every day), Jigga, Big L, Big Pun, my West Coast ****, Dre, Snoop, Game, Mos Def, Talib, and tons of other rappers.

Too many to list (my mp3 collection is nearing 35gb).

Post-rock, electronica, folk, hip hop, indie pop/rock, etc.

PS - Coldplay is truly terrible. Uninspired, dull, boring music. Belongs on elevators.

agreed...I used to like them, back in high school, but now I usually sleep through any of their concerts..

kudos to your taste, btw

for Radiohead fans (which I indeed am), you should check out Stereogum's 10 year commemoration of OK Computer (my favorite album), where emerging artists remake each of the songs on the album - I mentioned My Brightest Diamond before, their remake of Lucky is inspired...

ie - Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Boards of Canada, Joanna Newsom, Talib Kweli, Stars.

Nice. Some of my favorites.

wow! a sherwood fan, you don't see that everyday. awesome!

I like a lot of different genres (my top 5 in no particular order).

Hip-hop: Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco

Singer/Songwriter (I hesitate to call them all folk singers): Jack Johnson, Bob Dylan, Iron & Wine, Bright Eyes, Elliott Smith

Indie: Decemberists, Spoon, Fratellis, New Pornographers, Hot Hot Heat

Alternative: Guster, Radiohead, Death Cab for Cutie, Weezer, My Morning Jacket

Rock: Hives, Arctic Monkeys, Wolfmother, Foo Fighters, Killers

I love old Weezer, but their last two albums have done nothing for me. Their new single pisses me off immensely.

I can't believe someone else knows M83. Crazy.

I usually listen to classical music or soundtracks (mainly anything that doesn't have words), but lately I've been listening to Gavin DeGraw's Chariot CD a lot.

Actually, I'm listening to it right now.

Thats a good choice. I'm not gonna lie, I was suckered into watching One Tree Hill (which I actually now love but tell few of my roommates haha) by my ex-girlfriend and their intro song is "I Don't Wanna Be" from Chariot. I liked that so I ended up getting the cd, it's a good one for sure.

Good taste in music! Never really listened to sherwood, copeland or anberlin, but the rest would all fall into my favorites. I've seen Switchfoot in concert twice and they put on a pretty sweet show.

Yep! I've been listening to the new album quite a bit lately.

I'll add a few more: Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon), Broken Social Scene, Phoenix, Animal Collective, My Bloody Valentine (I promise, they aren't an emo band), Four Tet, Fennesz, Battles, The American Analog Set

Tiesto has to be the most hit-or-miss artist in history in any genre. The man has some really incredible stuff, but he also has sets where he pretty much spins the worst tracklist imaginable. "What? You don't want to hear 'Sandstorm' looped for my entire 2 hour set? How was I supposed to know that wouldn't fly?" :bang:

Oh, I forgot a personal favorite of mine: Scott Joplin. Not much will calm the nerves better than a little ragtime.

Haha! Loveless is a masterpiece alongside Daydream Nation, and The Velvet Underground and Nico. Emo, lol.

I don't have M83's new album yet. I'll look into getting it. Battles is absolutely superb, so quirky.

I'd have to add Modest Mouse's classic stuff to any list of amazing music. Same with "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" by Wilco, especially for anyone who loves Radiohead. And Interpol's "Turn On the Bright Lights."

Whoa, I totally missed the My Bloody Valentine mention. Good choice there, though I think everything else they did is a hell of a lot worse than Loveless.

Yeah, Loveless is definitely my favorite of theirs. It's also one of my favorite albums of all time.

I listen to a whole lot of stuff but mostly metal:

I love classic metal Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath are amazing, but mostly I listen to new metalcore--->

I really like the Acacia Strain (new stuff on myspace is really good, check out Dr. Doom) and WhiteChapel is dirty.

This is the funniest thing ever + good music (fro Job For a Cowboy's Doom EP):

I don't do much european speed (classic death) metal it all blends together for me. Metal just really gets me pumped, but incase you were wondering I can't listen to music while I study.

Same to you! You're my new best friend. The first time I heard them I was hooked. They're so good. I wasn't the BIGGEST fan of their newest, but any of theirs is good music.

You also get :thumbup: for Copeland.

If you combined Sherwood, Anberlin, and Copeland (and throw in Switchfoot for good measure), you'd get God's favorite band. Probably.

Modest Mouse is great.

I would have said A Perfect Circle at one time, but now the things on heaviest rotation are

Portishead, Alison Krauss, Joni Mitchell, Queen, David Bowie, Ambulance LTD, Patsy Cline, Cat Power

I also love Ella Fitzgerald and Chopin.
And The Pussycat Dolls are my guilty pleasure.

*Hate* the Foo Fighters. The new Weezer is disappointing.

wtf? LOL is that really you? It's like you have no shame!!! I like a little head-banging as much as the next guy but this was a bit...excessive.

Joe Budden
Long Way to go
- This song got me through the app process.

A great confidence builder and inspirational song

While my hip-hop "phase" has passed, Joe Budden's "Walk With Me," "Stand Up Nucca" and "10 Mins." are three of my favorites. As far as rap/hip-hop goes, I tend to favor what might be called "conscious" hip hop (Mos Def, The Roots, Common, Lupe, early J5 (i.e. NOT their latest album) over the more mainstream stuff. That said, how can you not love this?

Anyone else heard the new Sound of Animals Fighting album? This band is pretty hit or miss with me, and I haven't decided on this new one yet.

This is just easier. I have... eclectic taste. Granted, the top 10 isn't representative at all...

Damn, I need to hang around more pre-meds...I kinda feel like a dork, all I ever listen to is stuff that's been on my ipod for the past 4 years or so.

Some of the suggestions you guys(and gals) posted are pretty fresh. Gonna be checking out some of this stuff.

And yes, Old Weezer:love:>>>>>>>>>New Weezer:barf:

Nice. I don't suppose you've heard the album Stupid Dream by Porcupine Tree? It's a great mix of prog and pop, I think it would fit nicely in your list. Go check out the reviews on amazon (or pirate it )

I listen to Hannah Montana, classical, jazz, and country

And E=MC^2 cuz of the name
