It might be difficult to get into medical school if you can't figure out how to use the search old threads icon.

I mean, honestly! How many times do we have to hear the "what scores do I need to get into x specialty" thread come up?

I am still applying to medical school but thought it would be interesting to know.

Also what kinds of activities should you be involved in?

You should be able to find info with this via a quick keyword search. The "ortho" site is www.orthogate.com, there is tons of info on your question there. The short and sweet answer is that Ortho is consistently one of the most competitive specialties out there. Rightfully so, it is fun to do and most ortho guys are really normal albeit workoholics (aren't we all). Ortho is probably the last good old boy network in medicine. Connections are very important, therefore get involved with the Ortho department at your med school. Also make sure your med school has an ortho dept. if you know that is for sure what you want to do. Once you are in med school the better you perform the easier landing a residency will be. Shoot for AOA (academic honors society~ top 15% of your class) and high Step 1 scores >230, the higher the better, but 230 will let you play the game. Research is good if it is published. I am a fourth year right now with friends applying to ortho, a lot of them wish they had gotten involved earlier. Show a genuine interest, get good grades and good test scores and you should be alright.
