Just wondering what the schools are giving out. Got a free pen and a (crappy) alarm clock at the WashU interview. Michigan mailed me a fleece as a Christmas present. What about you guys? Good practice for collecting things from drug reps later on.

A FLEECE!?! Are u accepted there??

so far, the only free stuff i got at an interview was a crappy pen at pritzker that fell apart while i was writing my thank you note to my interviewer a few hours after i'd gotten the pen...

i got a free rejection letter from boston u, georgetown, george washington, and albany.
oh wait, they were not free i had to pay about 100 bucks each for them. cr@p.

Got a 2006 calendar from Michigan with a note attached.
Actually, it wasn't for me. It was addressed to my family.

i got a pen, a coffee thermos, a logoed paper bag, and candy goodies at northwestern.

I got a key chain flashlight from SLU.

From what I've seen on these boards, it seems UMichigan is the best medical school ever. Too bad I never had a chance of going there!

Getting free stuff from drug reps is a great and long standing tradition in medicine. I look forward to being part of this heritage.

Too bad the new Dean at Case Western doesn't accept ANYTHING from pharmacetical companies. He thinks it's unethical and compromises the integrity of medicine.

He's a great guy! Really charismatic!

You do? Even though they stiffed you with a lousy calendar, when the OP got a fleece?
;)

That's his perogative. I disagree and feel that it doesn't necessarily compromise anything- only if the physicians taking the free stuff happens to check his professional judgement in regards to what to prescribe.

Got a calculator at the RWJ interview

Yep I do.

Ohio State gave us a little satchel bag....not too shabby. I used it as a gym bag before i threw it away once they rejected me.

Got a crappy pen from Rochester. I used it to sign my MSSM acceptance, and to return address the envelope. I put the envelope in my mailbox, but it rained that morning. Before going out I luckily noticed that the return address had melted away due to the moisture, leaving nothing but a bluish hue to the envelope where it had been. I opened the envelope and my name, signature, amcas ID, and the date had completely vanished. Tricky, Rochester, Tricky!

Got a fridge magnet at Florida.

I'm sure there have been other pens thrown in throughout, but I can't remember any specifically.

Did y'all get these upon acceptance or interview? Cuz I just got a folder full of info at my interview.

It's comforting to know that someone's tuition money is being well spent on alarm clocks and Fleece jackets/blankets/whatever. I would shove a foot up an administer's ass if I found out they pulled that BS at my school.

Yeah this was my favorite free thing from my interviews...since I was planning on buying a messenger bag anyway...I'm still using it even though I wont be going to OSU hehe

unbelievably, Duke gave us a blue frisbee that says "I interviewed at Duke!" Umm I'm still not really sure what to say about it.

Hah! That is hands down, the worst thing I've ever heard. Or the best. It's confusing, that's for sure.

Maybe we should be turning the game of swag against the adcoms.. i mean we are trying to sell ourselves too here, right? I think I am going to hand my next interviewer a T-shirt that says "I interviewed Flopotomist!" (will work well if at Duke - except I didn't finish their secondary ever.. oops).

WashU's MD/PhD gave us a 'faux' leather ring binder with pad, a nice pen, and a laminated Place Map of St. Louis...but it would have been so much better to get a frisbee that says "MAYBE I MIGHT GET INTO WASH U"

Yeah...that cracked me up when they handed me the frisbee along with the interview folder. Too bad its too cold here to go outside and play frisbee.

The shirt for my interviewer will say: "I interviewed Praetorian from SDN. He's as charming in person as he is online!"

Huh, well I think that's probably the most useless item. I forgot to mention that I also ended up with a mystery UCSF pen though I don't think they were passing them out. Anyways, it is now a hostage and if I get rejected I will melt it into a lump.

It is the long standing tradition of my family to accept free swag from anyone and everything. I dislike Bush, but free "Vote Bush" pins?!! I'll take'em. Viagra calendar, sure thing. Free Estonian-folk dance music? You bet'ya. Free Ladies perfume sample? Why not? It still smells good.

All in all, I take whatever I can get.

Much Love(especially to free swag),
Rock On :horns: ,
Med-tallica.

Case asked me to give back my nametag. Still pissed about that.

man, all i've gotten are numerous pens and cool plastic binders and one hat and with one plastic cup. oh yeah, i also got one of those stress ball things. admittedly, the pens are nice because i'm always losing pens.

i got a pen at EVMS.....penn state also told me to give back the name tag

if anyone gave me a frisbee i would have started spinning it, i can't control myself

USF gave the interviewees a chocolate bar with the school's logo embossed on it. That's still my favorite goodie so far. And whoever said they didn't get a fleece from U Mich; don't feel bad, I didn't either. I didn't even get a calendar (unless they sent it to my parents. )

UCSD has triton brand water bottles...kind of cute

I got a pen from Wayne state when I interviewed there....whoppee..
Highlighter, coaster, and cup from other places...

That's what I said. The only thing I got from my interviews was a cheap folder on why I should attend so and so, a nametag that I accidentally stole (oops), and a bad case of herpes. I guess it's like fruitcake; it's the gift that lasts forever and keeps on giving.

I hit the gold mine this week! One of the hospitals that I rotate through gave all of the FAU medical students a USB flash drive.

I heard about these flashdrives from my interview at Texas Tech....we were all chatting it up. I would be stoked with a flash drive.

Unfortunately Texas Tech only gave us a huge heavy duty Bic highlighter....like seriously huge....the Hummer of highlighters

When did FAU get a medical school? FAU Medical Students, when did they get a med school to have med students?

We're actually University of Miami students. UM opened a regional campus at FAU back in 2004. We take two years of classes in Boca Raton, and then move down to Miami to do our clinical rotations at Jackson Hospital. We're technically not FAU students, although we get treated like it sometimes.

Here's an article about the future plans of the school

I'm still stuck on this the OP got a fleece from a school. I don't know whether to be semi impressed with their recruitment efforts or disappointed in how the school is choosing to spend their money.

i didnt give case western my nametag back and i got put on hold...

it was totally worth it
