Unless you have prereqs left to take, I personally think your time would be better spent getting pharmacy experience rather than picking up another major. And even if you do have prereqs to take, you can take those part-time and work at a pharmacy. Cheaper and definitely more lucrative to you getting into pharmacy school.

But to answer your question, I would think psychology. As long as you enjoy it, of course.

That depends on how strong your communication skills are. I'd say that is one of the top 3 qualities a pharmacist should possess. If you are a good socializer and have little to no problems talking with anyone in any situation, then you should go for the psych.

psych because its more of a science. you learn about a lot of mental issues and other health issues. communications is probably more fun but IMO a lot of pharmacists are more on the antisocial side. Pharmacists are generally shy people.

Might have some good points here, especially the last part.

If you have an interest in both disciplines then why not try them both out, since you are biding your time.

I know my psych 100 class was taught by a professor who was a specialist for arson cases and also dealt with chemically induced psych issues (heavy metal poisoning, etc) He made the class very interesting. If you can get a class that deals with the chemical aspect of psych, either heavy metal poisoning, or that teaches about the antipsychotics, how they work, etc., that could prove very beneficial. I'm leaning toward psych, I think communications, while important for pharmacist would cover the topic disproportionately to the amount we use and prove almost useless beyond the public speaking and interpersonal communications.

the psych. degree might peak an interest in wishing to do a specialization in psych. pharmacy.

Let me add that I have been working in a pharmacy for four years and running, so experience is certainly not an issue. Any other input is much appreciated.

I would go for Psych. I'm psych major myself and realizing that it is a nice mixtire with chemistry to go into pharmacy. nature of drugs and counseling of patients. If you know the basis of behavior and learn appropriate technics to deal with people, you will have few problem with angry customer!!! lol

what everyone else says + the fact that psychology requires more then a pulse to pass.

communication skills can be picked up from experience working in the pharmacy field or almost any customer service out there really.

It doesn't matter. I have a BS in Interior Design and was accepted to both schools that I applied to.

Anyone else notice this? I always thought that the ratio of social talkative pharmacists to antisocials is 100:1.

How does everyone else feel?

as in retail if you are stuck in a small back area, human contact can be nice. You know it is time to give up the job when you start to talk to the pills (or as I have seen people talking to bacteria)

Another place where a psych degree would come in handy.

The personality thread does show alot of I's. I'd say its pretty safe to say that the I's have it, I don't know if I'd say 100:1 though. I still don't think there's anything wrong with an ISTJ in a pharmacy.
