1. for me, I neeeeed to read ahead of class, or I'm completely lost when the Prof lectures.
2. I stay AWAY, far far away from my room/dorm. if I don't I'll spend about 3 hours of my life playing computer games/watching tv/listening to music
3. I don't listen to any of that Emo crap music I used to listen to back in highschool...it depresses me so much its unbelievable...so these days I either listen to classical, or uplifting indie/rock.. puts me in an AMAZING, content mood .
4. I stop the negative thoughts in my mind that tell me something is "too hard"

..I"m too lazy to write anything else right now..

pressure from upcoming deadlines makes me thrive. aka procrastination 🙁. The work i can do in only a few hours might take others an entire day or two...which is very helpful. But i wish i had the discipline to do it days before

read ahead of time, go to class, read again afterwards (not necessarily immediately afterwards)
realize when you need help, find someone who knows more than you to ask for help
?????
profit

What makes me a good student? studying when i have to

These come to mind: knowing to differentiate between important material and useless fluff, and not wasting time in lectures where all the teachers do is read off of their slides.

take hand written notes in class even if professor gives out the skeleton notes online. allows for better memory retaintion and helps me stay awake during boring classes. Go to tutors when i need help. And amazing luck considering i have not read a test book in a semester+ (since freshmen first semester). So far, not doing that bad on my tests. (87% biology and 89% econ) :luck:

genuine interest and when all else fails: really good study guides.

Studying every night after school for hours at a time. Coming here when I need a break.

I pretty much gave up my social life in exchange for good grades. In high school I was a big time partier, now I don't do anything but study, exercise, watch DVDs and occasionally play videogames.

god you're lucky. I always get the teachers who will lecture on one thing and then test you on things in the book they never went over.

In undergrad, finding out from classmates when exams were coming up. That was always a huge help to my grades.

i just go to class and listen...make a mental note of things i dont get, and go over it a few days before the test, or ask the prof after class.

thats pretty much it...but staying awake in class is a huge deal cuz my psych profs have very soothing voices (nicer way of saying that they're baaad lecturers)

ratemyprofessor.com is my best friend, and i an old friend has come back to help me this semester (cough cough sparknotes). really helpful for books like Plato's Republic. Seriously, college is a game.

i think it's my inherent neuroticism to be sure that i get everything done. i definitely do procrastinate (writing papers morning of, anyone?) but i guess intrinsically i always know that i WILL finish on time, and i'll do it well--i think it's a self-efficacy issue

haha. I looked at that for my school one day and everything anyone said about teachers I've had is way off. One of my worst teachers was rated "pretty good" and some of the best were dogged for the weirdest non-class related stuff. (Everything seemed like a personal grudge..)

agree 100%. i only wish i heeded ratemyprofessor earlier. Took a class that said a class i just took was rated 1.8/5 for ease (5 being easiest). I said wow thats low - but its ok im sure professor wont matter much or yeah maybe its just students holding a grudge. i read almost everyday for that class n studied days in advance for midterms (never did for other classes prior) and i pulled a B+ which i thought wasnt too good but i learned more in the class than any other classes combined. And i know kids that are jrs/seniors with 3.8 gpas that got Bs or B-s...so i def. agree that college is a game and its strategic to use things like that, archives, sparknotes, etc. you learn less but you go where you want to, i guess 🙁

living at home automatically brings up your gpa by 1.4 grade points

Definitely a combination of factors:
1. Staying ahead of the professor!!!
2. Studying a lot
3. I tell myself, "If anyone else has the ability to comprehend this, then I have the ability to comprehend it. If one man can think it, anyone can think it."
4. Go to office hours and ask your profs any questions you may have.
5. Apply what you're studying to circumstances that you are in-- it helps to reinforce the material. For example, when I go running, maybe I'll think about how my proprioceptors and detecting the movement of my limbs, which causes a rapid increase in heart rate and how my baroreceptors are detecting the increase in my blood pressure and my chemoreceptors are detecting the difference in the chemistry of my blood. Or maybe I'll remind myself of the micturition reflex that originates in the sacral spine when I urinate, etc. Apply what you know.

Nice, I might actually save this for a future signature. (w/o taking away your credit of course...😉)

On another note:

1.Try extremely hard not to procrastinate
2.Take breaks from class, studying, and anything having to do with academics when needed. For ex. running, indulging myself within my hobbies (bet you would like to know....😉)
3.ALWAYS I mean ALWAYS think optimistically and analyze a lot less the reality that wants to set in...
4.Got nothing else....THINK OF YOUR OWN STUFFFF!!!!..lol

haha, this is GREAT- I can relate to a lot of this stuff. Thanks = )

weak.

To answer the question. Its all about knowing how to study and what to study. Also, not stressing out about the issues at hand helps too. I just had an exam that I bombed (I know this, haha) and I'm not too upset because I have 3 more exams to make up for it along with quizzes (hopefully). Keeping a level head is the best thing.
