Merit scholarships are nice, but alas, all too rare.

There is also HPSP if you want to sell your soul to the military. (or if you have already sold your soul to the military; Go Navy!)

Right there with you. Don't worry, we'll have the last laugh when massive hyperinflation and currency devaluation puts the U.S. dollar on par with the Japanese yen.

    A guy can dream, anyway.

There are other service obligations besides military, as well.

Sell your platelets or serum regularly.

Sign up to participate in a research project that pays you a stipend.

Yeah there are some programs in my area that pay your loan if you promise to be a GP in a rural area. I would definitely do that if it wasn't so limited. For the one at UAMS you have to be one of the following:

    Family Medicine
    Internist
    Peds
    Gen. Surg
    EM

General surgery and emergency medicine are the only ones that I think I would consider, but I think its really backwards to make a student decide what they are gonna do before they even enter their 3rd year rotations and get a real feel for everything.
