Hello everyone, after having researched and researched I realize that all medical schools are worth a shot, but need to narrow them down, and if any applicants that are ny residents have similar stats, please let me know which out-of-ny schools you are applying to. Being a ny resident, I know I won't get into the UC's, Texas or any other schools that accept 90% of state applicants. Also, I've a 3.4 gpa/30 mcat, so the IVY's are are of question too. Thanks for your help. The sooner I know, the sooner I send my amcas in.

I think the average cut off is 30% out of staters. Any school that takes approx 30 percent Out of State kids is worth a good shot. Ofcourse, you have to make sure that your stats match up to each school's.

Here's what i did--
Get the MSAR, and also the Best Medical Schools book done by Princeton. YOu will need both, in my opinion. In PR book each school is listed with the amt of in state and out of state people. Get a list of schools that take in 30 percent and above. Cross reference that with MSAR and see if descriptions from both books match up so you can make an informed decision. See if the MSAR says anything about extra requirements you may not have etc. With those two guiding you, I think you can narrow it down considerably.

Also, the U.S. News web site has a lot of this information summarized well for many medical schools (but not all). You can also see how many in-state versus out-of-state were offered interviews, etc. However, they charge you 10 bucks to see this valueable information (cheaping than the MSAR though).

Temple, MCP Hahnemann (Drexel), Penn State, Jefferson, U Pitt, George Washington, Boston University, Finch, Loyola, Georgetown, Tulane, U Vermont.....I'm sure I forgot some, but these schools would be good options for you as an out of stater, since they accept large numbers of out-of-state applicants.

Well it isn't selling myself short as much as it is looking for safe schools outside of NY. Good luck with yale though, if you have everything else in shape, you will have no problem.

Any others schools that would be a safe bet with a 3.4/30??? Where are all the ny applicants....Anyway, thanks to all those that helped above.

I'd definitely recommend the PA schools for you more than the others (still close enough so you don't have to take a plane to visit family  ): Temple, Jefferson, MCPHU, Penn State, U Pitt, and even Penn as a reach school, because you never know! The other schools listed are good choices as well, while the "backup" schools could be GWU, Finch, MCPHU, and in NY: NYMC and Albany

Thanks a lot foxy. Also, your spanish dictionary link doesn't work.

The "Medical Spanish Online" link works for me. 😕 The bold is not a link, it's just to catch attention.

My fault, it does work. And the site is very helpful too, all student should take a look.

Definitely apply to 2-3 "reaches", because you never know what might happen.
