What qualify as strong ties to a state?

I'm interested in the Medical College of WI, but I'm a CA resident. What qualify as strong ties to the state? I read they accept out of state students with "strong ties" to the state. I grew up there, but we moved away and I started high school in CA. All of my dad's side of the family still lives there (in southeastern WI) and he graduated from Marquette (who used to sponsor the med school back in the day, I thought). Any thoughts?

I think you qualify as 'strong ties'. Even if you never resided in that state, but your parents are there, its strong ties. I think you'll be fine, try to push the idea that you can't be far away from your family in personal statements, interviews, etc.etc

I think that having your dad's side of the family in WI definitely qualifies as a strong connection to the state. It's definitely worth mentioning in your app if there's a place for it.
