Stats: gpa 3.1, gre 480V 580Q. I'm straight out of a BA program; I worked for about a year in an unrelated field. What schools would realistically admit me? Anyone have suggestions for me? Was anyone accepted whose stats are similar to mine? ANY ADVICE IS WELCOME. Thanks!!

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I'm also straight out of my BA degree. Even a lot schools who claimed there was a 'requirement' of two years' related work experience accepted me. I have worked part time paid, and full time on a volunteer basis, but the total hours worked in the field would be less than 2 years full time.

That said, my gpa was top-notch and did very well on the GRE.

It also depends what your BA was in. Mine was in International Development Studies and I applied to Internaional Health programs. I also studied abroad in Uganda for a year. These experiences all helped.

Maybe you could try to get at least some part-time volunteer work experience in public health in the meantime. If you have zero experience, they're going to wonder what you're basing your decision to study public health off of.

Always hard to give specific advice, but check out the last two links in the first post of this thread for some school-specific numbers.

It looks like at the University of Minnesota for the epi MPH program ~64% of applicants have been accepted in the past 5 years and that average undergrad GPA of the applicants (not of those accepted) was 3.43, and the GRE was ~560 verbal and ~670 quant.

I would only suggest that you consider looking at the different MPH programs and compare their statistics and information. It also depends on what major/area of emphasis in Public Health you want.
